That report says the deputy made the right decision to use a gun rather than a taser or pepper spray due to the dangerous threat.

“The family says they want people to know, if you do have large pets, let your alarm company know so that they will pass on the information to first responders in situations like this.”

What would the cops do differently? Be prepared to shoot the dog sooner?

WAVE 3 asked why the deputy didn’t use pepper spray or a taser.

“Yes, there are options that he had available on his belt but, it
takes longer to retrieve those pieces of equipment,” said Sheriff
Armstrong.

“She has never lunged at anyone or bitten anyone,” said Lewis.

Gee, there's a shocker. The general arrogance of many cops needs to be dialed down a notch or seventy.

Does anybody remember the scene from the “The Patriot” where the British commander gratuitously shoots one of Benjamin Martin’s kids out in front of the burnt out house?

Maybe someone with better HTML skills could post a link to the clip.

IMHO...when the thugocracy starts shooting the pets at will...it’s one step away from the kids IMHO....

Don’t know what all the fuss is. The cop followed policies and procedures of the police department. (sarc off)

The cops are a gang who investigate themselves.

Why not let street gangs do the same? Every time a Crip or Blood shoots a police dog let their fellow gang members decide if is was a “good shoot”.

“Our internal investigation indicates Deputy Kochsucher was hopped up on steroids and Viagra. There is NO WAY he wasn’t shooting SOMETHING. These civilians should thank Deputy Kochsucher for not waiting until they returned home and then shooting them. Deputy Kochsucher has been cleared of all wrong doing, promoted and given 2 weeks off with pay. These civilians better hope their alarm doesn’t “go off accidentally” in the future or we’ll be there to protect and serve. Now shut your pieholes and get back to work, we need some new MP5s.”

I never heard of this kind of thing happening 30 years ago, and that was a time when dogs ran loose in the neighborhoods.

There seems to be a new kind of police these days. I don't much care for it.

This is beyond belief. Citizens need to FORCE the police Dept. (bad publicity can do wonders sometimes!) to train officers in dog body language (and the trainers need to be outside the dept. and well acquainted with dogs). My dog greets us at the door with a genuine toothy grin. He shows his teeth but they aren’t “bared” and he’s not growling. Some dogs do this, tail wagging the whole time. If someone is just looking at his mouth they might mistake it for a threatening posture. It’s not, which is obvious when looking at his body posture — which is why that type of training needs to be required for every officer carrying a gun.

This has gotten completely out of hand. I have a very very difficult time believing this shooting was in any way justified. The family needs to do more than “hope” cops will handle these issues differently in future. They need to make SURE they do. Pressure, pressure, pressure — never let up.
