Just got back from the 1:50 PM showing of The Undefeated in Grapevine, TX. Attendance was roughly 75 people (I sat by the entrance and counted).
The Undefeated is everything that rave reviewers have claimed it is. Thankfully, my wife and I saw the G rated version, so we weren't assaulted by the filthy vitriol in the clips of the rabid leftists at the beginning of the movie. There were an awful lot of *bleeps* during that part.
Because I've paid close attention to Governor Palin ever since her arrival on the national stage, I'm already familiar with much of what was in the movie, but Steven Bannon managed to tell some parts of Sarah's life story that I wasn't familiar with. He provides a lot of detail around her rise through Alaska politics that you won't find in her book. Interviews with people who rose along with her, or who were on hand to watch that rise, really add a lot of depth to her story. It helps to explain just who this woman is, and what her core values are.
Bannon goes to great lengths to show how she stands apart from partisan politics, and how she is much more of an American Originalist, than anything else. I've made the same observation about Palin myself, but Bannon seizes on this one unique aspect of her character, and boldly underlines it.
There's a reason that she enjoyed an 88% approval rating among Alaskans before joining John McCain as his running mate. It's because she doesn't approach public service from a perspective of partisanship (although there's no doubt that she's staunchly Republican). She approaches the task of governing as a hard-nosed administrator of the Constitution - pushing back against anything that deviates from, or which violates that basic framework. Like Reagan, she believes that government should be a servant of the people, with limited powers, subject to The People's authority.
The Undefeated shows a person of unimpeachable character and good will, who simply wants to see our nation achieve its full potential. The movie shows a person who sees big government, high taxes, corruption and cronyism, violations of our Founding Charter, and feckless politicians as the stumbling block to us achieving that promise, and one who is determined to do whatever it takes to see this country righted.
What I got out of the movie, is a picture of someone who has clean hands, and who cares far less about partisan politics, than getting this country back on the right track. I also saw someone who has more courage in her pinky toe, than any ten politicians have in their entire bodies.
After seeing the movie, I can also say that I see someone who's running for president. It's quite clear that that office lies along the natural trajectory of her path in life. Watch the clips of her acceptance speech in 2008, and you can clearly see that she had the natural bearing of that office, even then. It's in her eyes, in her speech, and pours forth from every pore of her being. I saw it then, and I just saw it again today.
Go see the movie, no matter where you stand on the developing presidential race. If you already support Sarah Palin, you're going to learn a great deal more about her than you already do. If you don't support her, you may discover that you agree with her a lot more than you did previously.
One last thing. There was a sustained round of applause at the end of the movie.
Thus, the hatred from the greedy left and the immoral media.
As well as it can possibly be said. Nice, WF.
I've done some digging since our last chat, and it seems the coming Bannon "bomb" might be related to the Mexican gun-running scandal, though I'm anything but certain about this.
;^/
Can you fill me in or provide a link? PM if you want. thanks.
Bannon spares no effort in showing how the left and right establishment fear Palin like no other in recent memory. We’ve said it for years, but Bannon shows the stark truth of it, in no uncertain terms.
Lucky you, you got to see it! Thank you for the marvelous review.
If it does well this weekend, it has a good chance of appearing on other AMC screens — I hope one will be the one in a town not far from me!
That's one bomb that would upend US politics like nothing we've ever seen. Nothing like some good old fashioned truth to ruin a Marxist dictator's day, eh?
Thank you for your review.
Bannon's production company isn't talking, but it's been posted here and there, that if The Undefeated can average 35 tickets sales per showing in all ten theaters, it will go to wider theater distribution.
There were about 75 attendees at the showing I went to, today.
There's no doubt that it's also going to wind up in mass circulation via DVD, as well. I expect that it'll even be available online, before the primary vote. After seeing it, I can say that it has the power to change minds, which equals votes.
You’re welcome, Tom. I enjoyed sharing my experience with everyone.
The right belittle and despise her for the same reason. Make no mistake about it.
I musta bumped into you coming out while I was going in for the 4:30 showing. I too am a huge SP fan. I brought my wife and mother along. My mom still doesn’t believe she can win. My wife saw the movie as a 2 hour advertisement for Sarah. I saw it as pure inspiration. The 7:30 showing must have been sold out. The line was forming as we were leaving and it was about 20 strong. Spontaneous clapping (including me) happened during the (I think) CPAC speech excerpts. It was a great documentary which I highly recommend to all political stripes. (Two gay guys sat next to my mom.) I just want to say: Run Sarah Run!
Thanks for the review. She is my candidate! I will tell anyone who is curious why she is. I look forward to the DVD or streaming version, because I doubt if a Baltimore theater will show The Undefeated.
Even after seeing the movie? Well, she'll be a believer once Sarah's campaign explodes.
You might be right about that, but time will tell. It all depends on how well The Undefeated does at the box office in its initial run.
I'm telling you, her story would make for a blockbuster movie even if it were fiction.
How right you are. That Rove/ Krauthammer/ Noonan axis who always belittle and despise her are a real bunch of rightwingers.
Just saw it at the Block at Orange (CA). Pretty packed theater for a matinee. Everyone stood up an applauded at the end.
I, myself, was moved and uplifted at a time I really needed it. Barack Obama isn’t worthy of shining Sarah Palin’s shoes. She has accomplished far than he could ever dream of.
But what moved me most was her speeches. She knows what’s right for America and speaks of a love of this country even better than Ronald Reagan could. She is a amazing lady.
All I can say after seeing this film is Sarah has no choice. She has to run and she has to win. I really believe she is America’s last hope.
Thanks for the review - oh how I envy you for being able to see the movie.
I’ve been telling the leftists I know for a long time that the status quo of both parties fear her because she’s shown she’ll destroy their old boys scams no matter which side of the aisle is corrupt. Less than 1000 people have been destroying our country - running us to the brink of bankruptcy by spending enormous amounts of our money, and they personally almost all end up millionaires while being “public servants”.
This next election could actually be the transformation of the USA - back to what our founders intended. When reading reviews, such as yours that say the audience applauds and cries, I am filled with hope and this honestly has made me cry. Maybe there are enough of us to turn this around - under the guidance of the right leader.
Too bad it 4 1/2 hours away from the closest showing from us. Hope it hits DVD.
They will be attacking any and everyone who supports her, and they will make it personal. I think they know that attacking her will do nothing more than what's already been done so, now, they will attack her financial supporters.
It won't matter sh!t to me...I'm on her side as she's EXACTLY what the GOP and this country needs, and needs it desperately!
