Should parents of extremely obese children lose custody for not controlling their kids' weight? A provocative commentary in one of the nation's most distinguished medical journals argues yes, and its authors are joining a quiet chorus of advocates who say the government should be allowed to intervene in extreme cases. It has happened a few times in the U.S., and the opinion piece in Wednesday's Journal of the American Medical Association says putting children temporarily in foster care is in some cases more ethical than obesity surgery.

Nope, the government shouldn’t have one more reason to grab people’s children away from them.
Another set of ‘goalposts’ that can be moved by the State to suit their agenda. Just like the so-called ‘Complete Lives’ program.
“I can control all of these things with my kids.”
And then you’d be locked up for “child abuse,” if the State ever got wind of it. The socialists have done EVERYTHING to take all rights from parents, and force children to be raised on the government dole, and indoctrinated by government teachers (also on the government dole). This country has gone backwards.
What about Anorexic kids that are the victims of “advertising.......”?
Agreed. While I loathe crappy parents, the state has no right to interefere in people’s private lives.
But can I get a promise that my tax dollars won’t go toward their lifetime of medical needs?
>>Nope, the government shouldnt have one more reason to grab peoples children away from them.<<
The gummint should get rid of the pretense. The liberals want 100% control of all thought. The best way to do that is to get the children as young as possible. Public skools have become centers of Indoctrination (”who pays for your lunch? The State, Blessed be It!”).
This is merely the next step in complete control. Find the smallest of excuses to give The State reason to place children with people who will ensure The State’s agenda is inculcated.
Next up: If you are a Republican, you should lose custody of your children. For the Good Of The Children. After that, they will go after Conservatives.
Is it healthy and safe? No. Neither is letting your kid do rodeo or ride dirtbikes or any number of other things.
The nanny State has a limitless mandate and a rapacious hunger to regulate legislate and criminalize the slightest most minute aspects of our life.
Parents raising obese children are doing them no favors, but neither are those raising them to be ignorant TV watching drones. There are any number of ways parents fail their children - shall we regulate and criminalize them all?
First it was “school lunch”. Then it was “school breakfast” because the kids can’t think on an empty stomach. Then it was “school dinner” because the kids go home to empty houses. Next it will be “school beds” because the kids don’t get a good night’s sleep at home.

Sure can! Make sure you do your part to end the socialist, unconstitutional social security, medicare and medicaid programs (And all others, but as long as these stand, the rest will too), and then make sure we never have these idiotic, thieving ponzi schemes foisted upon us anymore, and we’ll all be set.
[Please tell me I DON”T need a sarcasm tag on this one...]
And here we see the camel's nose under the tent.
One of the few things keeping the nanny State out of our lives is that they must show a “compelling government interest” as the target of such legislation or regulation.
When we have socialized medicine, suddenly there is a “compelling government interest” in every single aspect of every single American’s life.
Heck no!
That’s what taxes are FOR!
;-)
Two of us against the world!
How is it even possible for a 3 year old to be 90 pounds? I think that child should probably be take away - that is pure abuse and neglect. However, where do you draw the line?
Mine could stand to lose a few and he weighs 33 pounds.
