We were in Titusville by 5 AM, the place was already swamped and people still coming in. By 7AM we were out on a bridge over the Indian river. People were still coming in a steady stream right up to launch. I was all set up but at the end of the countdown a mob started pushing for a better view., I lost some shots because people bumped me just as I shot. The haze was thick as smoke and the clouds were so low the shuttle was hidden almost as soon as it started. I don't have any idea what the bomb squad was doing there but I did see some people wearing tee shirts from a muslim student group.
Sorry, I don’t understand your question. Doing what?
I was in our break room and the TV was on CNN...they mentioned the T-31 hold was something about verifying that part of the gantry (the cap that goes over the external tank maybe?) had fully retracted. They stopped the countdown and swung a couple cameras into position to verify it, at least that’s what the talking head and the NASA comms seemed to be saying.

Understand, My wifes mobility scooter often is baskets all full! I had heard about that Bomb Squad Appearance but no real details. It looks like you had a good day. Again thanks for the great pictures. It seems like a great many people were interested in seeing us do our job one last time!
Best Wishes Always,

That was exactly right! I’ll be darned they actually got it right without putting a political agenda spin on it (CNN talking heads).

I think I just figured out your question.
I don’t know for certain, but from day one this asshat has been trying to strip our country of anything good and anything truly American.
He has told the world that he wants to level the playing field. To do that, he must bring us down to their level and he doing a good job at doing just that.
I think that is an excellent summation of his program!
Thanks swampy...I hated to have to leave Florida before the event. I watched on TV and really worried that “O” was going to talk through it. I wonder what choice the media would have made?
I was hoping that someone sat on my pool deck and watched the event? Probably no one at all...what a waste of history!
I will forever remember the night launches with the fondest memories.
Thanks again for your effort to show all of us your view!
Better relieve this worthless Kenyan circus Clown and keep it flying, until we build another ride into space!
“Correct me, if I am wrong, but did Obama just hand space supremacy over to China and Russia?”
Yeah, I am looking at the Kenya space program\s
No you are totally correct. The United States of America is now a third rate space power. We can only send up satellites and our “Commercial” industry wont be fully operational for another 4 to 5 years for Unmanned and being optimistic it will be 9-10 years before they are man rated and able to send men into space. All of the Obama programs aren’t even slated to start on the drawing board until 2012! The first flight isn’t scheduled until 2017 and that is not accounting for the usual slips a project of that nature experiences so it also won’t fly until 2020 and won’t be man rated until about 2023 at the Obama pace of things. Obama is all about not doing anything that would bring out the greatness of the USA!

Thank You, I don’t know why but that got to me. How lucky I have been to have had the career I have had. Thanks for the Link.

Obama must be stopped, before he changes America into a 3rd world regime!
But with your Adobe Photoshop software maybe you can tweak them? Does it have a section for changing to different lighting conditions? Or a section for adding 'filter effects'? If it does, play a round with one image, you never can tell.
Both of my Nikon finishing software(1) programs can do that and they've helped me make some of my photos come out better (more 'presentable' for framing), even when I had the camera's settings all 'technically' correct.
In any case you still have photos of the last Space Shuttle the USA will ever use/have. (Having pic's of the last Mercury, Gemini or Apollo launches would be a great keepsake too)
(1) Nikon 'View NX2'(ver 2.1.1), and Nikon Capture NX2 (ver 2.7)
Thank you!
Awesome pics SS!!!
Hey Swamp! Glad you made it over there. I thought of you when they stopped the clock at 31 seconds. Great shots!
