MILWAUKEE -- Pittsburgh first baseman Randall Simon was interrogated by the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department after a strange incident in which he struck a participant in the popular sausage race during Wednesday's game between the Brewers and Pirates. The race, which takes place after the sixth inning, features runners wearing costumes of various sausages -- bratwurst, hot dog, Polish and Italian. As the runners passed the Pittsburgh dugout, Simon hit the Italian sausage with his baseball bat, perhaps harder than anticipated

Today is the anniversary for one of those few incidents in life that literally laughed me to tears.

In KC they have the Condiment races.
Ketchup and mustard are outclassed by relish.

"We certainly do not view this as endemic to the Pirates or as a Pirates issue, per se . . ."

I'm afraid I'm about to pollute your mind forever--at least, I've never been able to forget this since I first heard it. So, fair warning!
As you know, the Japanese have adopted baseball fiercely, but they've also had to incorporate many of the associated customs.
The Japanese term for "hot dog" is............................
"Hotu Dogu."

If I remember correctly, that was the only hit Simon had all week.

Simon was charged with felony assault for his attack on the Italian Sausage. Simon also threw a baseball at the hotdog, who dodged the attack; therefore, he will also be charged with a “missed a weiner.”

Is Weiner involved in all this?

No, I was not. I heard that Simon volunteered to buy an entire section’s worth of tickets - in Milwaukee, to a game NOT against the Pirates - and gave them to underprivileged kids and their families as a way to apologize to the Brewers and the community.

I remember it vividly. I’m laughing to tears right now.
The news report reminds me of The Onion.

Thanks for that. I tried all kinds of search options and could not locate.

A friend of mine is borrowing two sausage costumes today from Klements for his restaurant opening day.
The Klements rep told him that they usually charge a deposit for cleaning the hot dog - due to re-enactments - the others usually don’t get too dirty
