Back in April I wrote about a person near and dear to me yes, my husband who needed two new crowns for $3,442. I published his experience in a post, Is Your Dentist Ripping You Off? Dentists howled in protest at the provocative headline, though most agreed with the content of the story.

Move to West Virgina.
There are dentists in Tijuana who graduated from dental schools like USC and UCLA. They cater to Americans. They charge less than half of what dentists in San Diego. The dentists in Tijuana probably don’t have to pay for malpractice insurance.
I have a bridge and I had two different dentist place it in and the longest its stayed in was about a month. I had it placed back in 4 times. Personally I think I got ripped off!
I was just complaining about that. I need insurance for the unexpected charge, not for the twice yearly visit. If I pay my dentist $100 twice a year (probably a little low) and use insurance instead, the insurance company will charge me $300 to be able to pay $200. I need insurance if the dentist says "you need four teeth capped".
* Ask your primary care physician which dentist she uses. Ask your lawyer.
Lawyers have to go to specialist dentists to handle their multiple rows of teeth which they replace regularly.
are you in MN? if so, I’ll avoid your dentist.
I have to get a crown done soon, my first . Dreading the bill. Even though it is from a HSA, it’s still a lot of $.
Oh well, use it or lose.
Wow! What a grill! Seems to me that would irritate the dickens out of the inner lining of the lips. That would drive a person nuts, although this guy could probably crack them with his finery.
The marginal fixed of a crown may not be that much, but the dentist has to cover both his fixed and variable costs or he won't be there to fix your teeth.
No New Mexico. It not just one the one that did the orginial work placed in twice and now my new one has placed in twice! And of course its out again! In the 6 monthes since I had it put in its been barely in a total of 2 of those months.
I recommend dentists who are at minimum a **fellow** of the Academy of General Dentistry. A **master** of the Academy of General Dentistry would be an even better choice.
Those general dentists who have earned fellowship or mastership level accreditation in the Academy of General Dentistry are committed to excellence in their profession and have a life-long commitment to serious, intense, and certifiable continuing education.
My personal general dentist is a Master in the Academy of General Dentistry.
I wanted to be a dentist ,but ended up on the Island of Misfit Toys.
You need to stop eating nails and taffy.
The following is the website for the Academy of General Dentistry. Those dentists who are members of the Academy and those who have earned the fellowship or mastership levels of accreditation are listed.
Paid $650 (and that was just my portion WITH dental insurance) for a root canal. Two months later the crown came off and the tooth cracked in half. THEN the dentist informed me that I would have to pay $1200 for a new tooth. No dental insurance now, so the $1200 has moved to $3200.
Since another tooth has split (I had dental issues during pregnancy that caused problems with my teeth), I’m just about ready to invest in a whole set of freaking dentures.
I have a dental appointment on Monday. I just look at his five employees. How much does that cost? Then I **know** there are support people such as payroll services, tax accountants, equipment service people, and laboratory techs.
My dentist must easily have have a half-million invested or more in his office. He has a CAD/CAM machine that mills crowns that cost him $120,000. That is just **one** of his very expensive pieces of equipment. How much would that sophisticated machine cost that takes a radiograph of the whole jaw?
Dentists are way too expensive. I simply do not understand why.
the idea of overhead is bull. Everybody has overhead.
