What a lineage maestro Suk had.......especially being the great-grandson of Anton Dvorak! What Saturday night family get-togethers these men must have had. Oh, to have been a fly on their walls!

Dvorak is one of my all-time, all-star composers. He defines "listening pleasure" for me.

But I have great memories, also. Sunday nights at Grandma and Grandpa Landry's house were musical. Uncle Harry with the clarinet and other reeds, Uncle John at the piano, with Grandpa showing his skill at the bass fiddle and, more tunefully, his prowess from being a long-time member of the Chicago Mandolin Orchestra which played in Orchestra Hall.

I wish I could again hear him play a wild Hungarian gypsy air or a plaintive Russian song on his fine classical instrument.

I'm sure there are other freepers reading these classical threads who have had their musical appreciation sparked and honed in long-ago family musicales.....as did I.
