if mlb adds two teams in baseball i feel they should add an american league team in atlanta ga with the nl best braves if they should move an nl team to the al it should be the phillies cause penn has 2 nl teams phils an pirates
The talk I’ve heard is that Houston would move to the AL. I can deal with that. Expansion though is a horrible idea given that so many small market teams are already struggling.
Too many teams....they should just fold the Dodgers and be done with it.
Nah. Build a stadium and move Da Bums back to Brooklyn where they belong.
Uh, the Braves are not the NL best, as Philly is up four games on them.
And do the math. Unless you have at least one inter-league game most days, you need an even number of teams in each league, hence the current alignment.
If a PA team is to switch leagues, it should be the Pirates. The Phillies are doing well, so why mess with success? Besides, who would want to have to slug it out with he Yanks, Bosox and Rays in the AL East year after year?
On the other hand, it can’t get much worse for the hapless Pirates, so they might do better in the weaker AL Central.
Move the Dodgers back to Brooklyn.
What about returning the Brewers to the AL where they started?
Exactly. I cant thing of any worse move, which will minimize the difference between the leagues,that they could make; which is why I think those numbnuts will probably do it.
Remember they wanted to dissolve two teams before the 2002 season? The rumored targets were the Montreal Expos and Minnesota Twins at that time. Yep, too many small markets struggle as it is.
Unless they want to go to international expansion, it’s hard to think of too many large American cities which are solid markets for expansion.
Las Vegas is the largest market without pro sports, but the leagues are concerned about legalized gambling on sports there.
Otherwise, you’re down to smaller cities such as Portland, San Antonio, Oklahoma City, New Orleans, Columbus, Charlotte, Indianapolis as major league baseball expansion sites. Even if the fans solidly support teams in these cities, you would just be adding that many more small markets to baseball by expanding, which would magnify all of the existing problems.
They have diluted MLB with inter-league play and soon there will be no distinction. BTW I HATE DH rule! Can it. Baseball is a game of 9 men per side on both offense and defense. (End of rant)
Vegas will never be able to support a team. It’s too much of a population island since there isn’t enough population in the rest of the state to bring in consistent crowds. Apart from SLC, the larger cities within a reasonable driving distance have their own teams.
Even their minor league baseball team has trouble drawing more than a couple thousand people.
My suggestion is keep 14 and 16 teams, but make each league a little different. Divide the NL into four four-team divisions with no wildcard. The AL gets two seven-team divisions with two wildcards.
This gets rid of the AL West and NL Central issues and gives the two leagues different personalities. The AL has the DH and wildcard teams, the NL has a more pure race for division championships.
Agreed. Get rid of the DH.
I’ve never understood why so many pitchers are poor hitters. Such lack of hitting skill would not be tolerated by players at any other position.
Also, since pitchers specialize in pitching, they could arguably be more aware of the styles and techniques of their fellow opposing pitchers. Their knowledge of pitching technique could theoretically help them be better hitters when it’s their turn at bat.
I’m sick of the Rangers playing so many games on the West Coast with a 9:05 local start time.

Compared to the day of Billy Maz and Clemente the Pirates lineups of the past 18 years would still be AAA players.
It’s a lot easier to come up with a balanced schedule if you have 6 divisions of 5 teams each.
20 series against your own division
5 series against the opposite league, own division
20 series against the rest of your own league
That leaves 6 series.
You could do another series against your own division plus two in the opposite league, or else all 6 series in the opposite league.
The own division, opposite league play would be nicely nested during divisional play, thereby minimizing travel expenses. The odd team out in each division would play each other.
