Whadda guy.
Truthfully, I can’t blame Petty for this. It’s his stuff, and having it used in a political campaign must be like a parent seeing their small child dressed up in a stupid costume doing stupid things on national TV.
If she wanted his music that badly, she could have hired some other musician to do a cover of it under “fair use”. It’s done all the time.
or what? thats what i would like to know.
what can he really do?
Why don’t these slimeball lefty rockers just go and do what they do best: overdose and die.
Here’s what she needs to play before coming out on the stage, including the FREEDOM cry at 0:28. (Maybe Ted could change a few of the lyrics), however, I’m sure he would be honored to have it as Michele’s theme song!

Petty dictated the cease and desist letter himself which read: “Heh, muhhinnah heh. Essa beh. Bebuddah heh.”
I always loved the Saturday Night Live impressions of him (Dana Carvey?). They nailed how you totally cannot understand a word he sings. The skit with him and Bob Dylan having a conversation was classic.
Bachmann’s better off without him.
Honestly if she was paying attention to the lyrics she wouldn’t want to use the song anyway. Nothing good is happening to the American Girl in the song. This is another one of those Born in the USA situations, somebody likes one line, doesn’t bother to pay attention to anything else and thinks they’ve got themselves a great anthem.
And why do campaign’s need theme songs anyway? I mean I know it’s all theater, but you don’t have to admit it’s all theater.
How petty of him.
... is an appropriate name for this guy...
Tom Petty can’t prevent her using that song, its a commercial item,, all she has to do is pay for its usage in usual royalty payments.
ZZ Top.
John Rich is conservative.
Never heard of him so don’t guess I have missed anything.
Amazing how Petty goes from the one with the chosen song, to a no-talent ass clown overnight.
I wonder which genius on her campaign staff managed this?
Not many songs about Iowa or Idaho girls.
I wonder if Shania Twain would go along?
Some of her titles:
“You’re Still The One”
“The Woman In Me”
“I Ain’t No Quitter”
“She’s Just Not a Pretty Face”
What a fvcking douchebag.
I’ll stop playing your songs too, Tom.
Go, Michelle, go!
Never heard of the schmuck. And absolutely no problem keeping anything he wrote from crossing my air waves. She ought to charge him for all the advertising, yeah that’s the ticket, send him a freeking invoice for all the air time she’s given him.
Good riddance! His voice was awful....at least to me!

I always thought he was highly overrated. His voice is whiny, nasal and grates on my nerves.
