A St. Paul woman showed up to pick up her child from school Friday afternoon, and was arrested with a .30 blood-alcohol-content, police said.
The 44-year-old woman arrived at Linwood Monroe Arts Plus, pre-K through eighth grade, about 12:30 p.m. with her 8-year-old son, said police spokesman Andy Skoogman. She was picking up another one of her children, Skoogman said, when the 8-year-old went into the school and told the principal that his mother was not in driving shape.
The boy's mother remained in the car parked out front.
The principal went to the woman's car, took her keys and called police.
Police observed that the woman had "extremely" blood-shot eyes, smelled of alcohol and was slurring her words, Skoogman said.

Good Grief! .30 BAC? How’d she even manage to get to the car much less drive it.
Most people pass out long before .3
Yes. A “normal” person would. I’d think. She may have a lot of experience consuming alcohol.
I don’t know...I suspect sustaining a .3 takes a few years, if not decades of practice.
Hello Laz!!! Long time no speak.
I think a baseball bat would hit that out of the park.
More like an act of desperation downing a half pint all at once. Most experienced drinkers know how to maintain a functional high but a novice out of deperation many times will shotgun without realising the consequences.
Howd she even manage to get to the car much less drive it.
God looks after idiots and children. Many times when I was in a similar condition - as a child - I often marvelled at my car’s ability to get me to my destinations with no input from myself.
8 Years Old. That’s a Wolf Scout becoming a Bear, or there abouts.
I can’t think of one kid in my Pack that would have to make a call like that.
I think the most unforgivable sin is the act of making children become adults before their time. There is no recovery from it. No restitution.
You wuz drivin' a car when you wuz a child?
And drivin' drunk too?
Man O Man. No comment
Don't let my FR handle fool you (it's a long story), but I am a recovering alcoholic. But I digress...
You're right, Fiddlstix: a "normal" person would have passed out before a 0.30 BAC. However, only someone with a very high tolerance to alcohol could have a BAC that high and still think they're OK to drive. And believe me - the judge will take notice of that fact at her DUI trial.
When I was drinking, I am certain that most nights I drove home from the bar and I was easily at a 0.20 BAC. That is something that I am not proud of and it was only through God's grace that I didn't kill someone. When I checked into inpatient rehab - on a Monday morning at 9:45 - my BAC was 0.17 - twice the legal limit here in MD. That was on March 1, 2010 and I haven't touched alcohol since. It was the best thing I ever did.
I hope this woman finds it in herself to admit her problem - and it's a problem - and to let God, her family and other caring people help her overcome alcoholism. She has to do it for herself (alcoholics and addicts are very selfish), but she should be ever mindful of the pain it is causing her family. I hope that she can find lasting sobriety and how it truly delivers what alcohol promised. I wish her Godspeed.
I've never had problem with drinking myself. Truth is, I just can't handle the stuff. Three beers and I'm a goner. That's IF I managed to down the third one and usually I don't get passed two and a half.... if that many.
(I have half a "six pack" [3 beers] still in the fridge left over from new years)
I'd think that someone who drinks a lot would mean their body'd have to acclimate to the constant alcohol use. They'd develop tolerance that I, for example, ain't got. That'd make sense to me.
Again I wish you all the best with your fight against drinking.
Good for you to get treatment.
A friend of mine disappeared for about 2 months and then emailed me that her kids did an intervention on her and she did an inpatient rehab and is now alcohol-free. She couldn’t say no to Captain Morgan and would have had bad consequences if it had continued much longer. Damaged liver, failing health, dangerous driving, etc.
The best time to correct a problem is before there are permanent repercussions. Good on ya.
Never mind her blood alcohol. Mama looks like she could stand to go night-night for a few days straight.
Laz, you are starting to worry me....You’d really hit that?
Just trying to stay with the theme.....
Source?
self observation over the years of friends and family.
So it's just your anecdotal personal opinion....You have no medical experience to back your statement up.
That's fine....
She’s 44 years old, got an 8 YO kid, what little bit of youth she has left will be gone when the kid is 18.She feels trapped and she’s depressed, yeah, just my 2 cents worth.
You affirmed my point.
