It has been an action packed week for Michelle Obama. The First Lady began her first official state visit to Africa this week. Leaving the President behind, Michelle and her daughters Sasha and Malia began their five day trip where they will visit South Africa and Botswana.

The First Lady said in a video message at the WhiteHouse.gov, "I'm doing this because we know that Africa is a fundamental part of our interconnected world. And when it comes to meeting the challenges of our time, whether it's climate change or extremism, poverty or disease, the world is looking to African nations as vital partners.

"And we'll be looking across the continent to young people, just like all of you, to be leading the way. We'll be looking at young people like Anna, an 18-year-old from South Africa, who produces hard hitting stories as a citizen journalist on issues like climate change and HIV AIDS."

You can follow the First Lady's trip here, or on Facebook or use #youngafrica on Twitter.

In Botswana

The First Lady took the sidelines on her arrival in Gaborone, Botswana on Friday, where she was greeted by traditional dancers. Michelle isn't one to shy away from dancing, but she respectfully watched the performers as they danced with a wide smile on her face.

I would be nice to live in a world where your total self-worth and sense of accomplishment was based on your dancing ability.

However, the inate sense of rhythym is sometimes offset by a total lack of intelligence. The never-ending quest to "out-dance" each other has worked its way into the physche and has become a replacement for actual achievement.

It seems that sometimes the youth are taught to dance before they can even walk, and somehow made to feel that they are special for being able to do even the most rudimentary moves.

It's the reason that the rest of the world is outrunning us on academics...they're studying, we're busy dancing.

The sad truth is, when everyone can do the same dance steps, then no one can be called a "superior" dancer...and WHAM...we're back to "group mentality".

Dancing does not take a lot of brains, just a lot of rhythm...and the higher it rising in importance in our society, the dumber we get.

P.S.

“He dicho” translates from Spanish into English: “I rest my case.”

You know, I suppose in primitive cultures they may have felt that having very young girls shake their ass as a sign of eagerness was a good thing -- but that sort of booty shaking came to America some decades ago, and I don't think it has served us very well. I'd like to see more adult behavior; more restrained behavior. That is to say, I'd like America to reduce the amount of African influence in our culture.

Just sayin'

I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to hear what she’s discovering about Africa’s great wisdom in these matters. /sarc

We could start a contest:

Michelle’s ass is so large ... they have to recalibrate seismic monitors when she’s in the area.

Michelle’s ass is so large .. they had to disconnect the motion sensor on presidential limo when she’s nearby.

Michelle’s ass is so large ... they spray silicone on the door frame of Air Force One prior to her boarding.
