Good morning gardeners. Well this past week brought a respite from the sunny hot weather here in Mississippi. We received two days of beneficial rains, which helped to revive my garden. Watching the radar it looked like a good portion of south-central Texas from San Antonio to the northeast corner received some rain also. I hope it was helpful to our gardeners over that way. My winter squash are growing like mad and my hot and sweet peppers are doing great. What is left of my tomatoes seem to have revived a bit during these rainy and cloudy days. I really hope that what ever weather you have had improved a bit for you and your gardens this past week.

You killed your own thread and din’t even apologize? My day was taken up with breakfast with my daughter and her husband then home to spend a hour in the garden, then joined in on the Nascar thread and then another 90 minutes in the garden. I got my foot caught between a hoe handle and and hose and fell flat on my face in one of my wife’s favorite flowers in the perennial garden. Every old timers curse is a broken hip...
Huh?
Of course. Your post was at 10:48 AM and no one answered until I posted at 5:45PM. (it’s a FReeper thing and no offense was meant)
I am certain that I am at least among the leaders for number of threads I’ve killed. It’s a gift I have.
I will. We’re going into Waco and I’m going to check out the panels. I think I should get 3/8” rebar for the panel posts? Atwoods have a bunch of 3/8” rebar for just #1.??, hubby said they were probably 2 or 3 feet long. That would be great for the resin panels I’m going to put around my garden shed. I’m doing that so snakes, rats, mice and squirells can’t take up house keeping under there. The resin is going to hold in soil and I’m planting flowers, roses etc around it. It’s an old metal Morgan building so, I’ve got a buddy and we’re going to cut a couple of windows, take out a panel from the roof and replace it with a corragated resin panel. I have a play house and it’s even extended to the outdoors. It’s fun to be retired, even if my raised gardens goes kaflooy when the weather heats up. I’m thinking of “rescuing” water from our roof, but at the moment, don’t know how, as the water spouts run off the berm around the house and drop the water onto the driveway. Right now, I’m busy getting material for our community garden. In the next 2 weeks, I’m going to the Ag Dept at TX A&M for information and laws that cover such things. Being retired is a busy time, but fun. I used to get up around 0530 to be at the ranch when the workers came in. Now I STILL wake up around 0530 or 0600. Get up, make coffee, water the plants, come in have coffee, sometimes do a bit of sewing waiting for Hubby to stir.

I know...
I make pico de guio, I love the taste of jalapenos, so have to make my batch and everyone elses.
Cedarburg is SUCH a pretty town. If I don’t eventually move West, I might move there. :)
I bought local strawberries last week. Made a pie, froze the rest for freezer jam at some point in the near future. Nothin’ better! Well, except for the wild Black Cap Raspberries that are LOADED this season. My Blackberry patch is also loaded; they’ve loved the cool spring and plentiful rain that we’ve had.
Life. Is. Good. :)
Did you break you hip?
Ach OH, sorry for the double post. Had the mind in neutral and fingers in gear. Sorry.
It was so hot, and I was tired by the time we got to the Strawberry Fest that I just walked around a bit, ate some ice cream, watched the Irish dancers, and took the tractor drawn hayride around town with the kids. I drive through Cedarburg 2 or 3 times a day — every day. But, it is interesting how different the place looks by hay wagon. I noticed houses that I had never noticed in 26 years of living here! The children did pony rides, petting zoo, and granddaughter was bummed that we did not get there early enough for facepainting.
11,000 people live in Cedarburg, and attendance at the Festival is generally around 30,000, so you can tell that it was crowded. The kids have gone to see Soul Surfer at the Rivoli (the bargain movie) in town. I hear them coming in.
Not yet. and you?
Are you OK? I hope the ground was soft.
Your trees are gorgeous. Are the pears as good as they look?
Yep, I’m part bionic, left hip.
I wont know how tasty they are for a month or so. They are hard as a cue ball right now. The few I harvested last year were very sweet and juicy!
Oh Dear!!! I guess it should be no surprise as they are quite common these days...
