HAWTHORNE, Fla. -- A 74-year-old man attacked by pit bulls Friday morning had his right arm amputated, his left arm partially amputated and suffered severe facial injuries, Putnam County deputies said. Deputies were called to the 200 block of Old Hawthorne Road in Hawthorne about 11 a.m. and found Roy McSweeney severely injured. McSweeney was taken to Shands Hospital in Gainesville and was in surgery Friday afternoon. His condition was not available. Investigators said the two dogs responsible for the attack belonged to McSweeney's neighbor.
They said the owner of the dogs gave both of them to authorities, and the pit bulls were euthanized and taken to the Putnam County Health Department to be tested for rabies.
Deputies said no further details could be released. .
It doesn’t take a big aggressive dog to alert you. I have 2 alarm systems, one I pay for the other is my dogs. They have a deep bark for their size. It’s not the size of the dog that scares intruders away, it’s the bark period. If the dog is barking, people are noticing. How does a dog alert police if a house is broken into? I prefer an alarm system that actually immediately alerts the police.
I think every Pit Bull owner should have a weapon. They never know when they might need it to protect themselves, a family member or friend from the dog.

Ibitzan you’re just trying to russell me out of here because you can’t whippet up your next post.
The dog did not -eat- the baby.
Stop lying.
[havanese?]
God, I love you!
That was the singularly most pitiful back pedal I’ve *ever* seen.
Should’ve just taken the kick like a man and been done with it.
“If the dog is barking, people are noticing.”
Frog snot.
People learn to tune out perpetually yappy little dogs as a means to preserve their own sanity.
My Dobe rarely barks.
When he does, something is happening that shouldn’t be happening.
*That*, the neighbors notice.
I know this is hard for you to understand, but a person would have to have next to zero self esteem to have to defend this kind of comment with more effort than I expended. The ‘I bow to no man!’ is the pit bull lover’s defense of fragile ego hence the need to identify with excessively aggressive dogs. Those of us with self esteem can give a little credit where a little credit is due, or survive a snarling rebuttal without being fazed, without feeling like our self esteem is being diminished - hence I do not need to to own or support vicious dog breeds.
Better hitch your skirt up before it gets caught in the chain.
:D
Re crossbreeding:That sounds a lot like what people are trying to achieve with Savannah Cats. (Please Google; can’t cut-and-paste a link on my Kindle.)
Re previous post: Neeeeeeeeeever mind!
"... - hence I do not need to to own or support vicious dog breeds.
The only "vicious" dog breed I own these days is a Chihuahua (his name is Jerry Lee, but we call him "Killer"!) Does that offend your liberal sensibilities, too?
"The I bow to no man! is the pit bull lovers defense of fragile ego hence the need to identify with excessively aggressive dogs."
No son, the "I bow to to man!" is the American defense against any invasion of private property rights.
(Didn't they teach you this stuff in school?)
I see that your style and clever turn of words really was a one time thing. I suspected that was going to be the case. Well at least I got a cool graphic out of it.
Well, that makes 4.
Christ, he loved me and and died for me.
My mother, she got there first.
My wife, (and I'll never figure that one out)...but I thank God every day.
And now you!
More people love you than you know, my good and faithful friend...:)
Well, be sure to let the doorknob hit you in your God given the vertical split.
A wise man once said of cats;
“You know, if they were bigger, they would eat you.”
:)
It just ain't yer day, Butch.
:)
