In on-camera interviews set to be posted on the official Miss USA website, 2011 pageant hopefuls are being asked if they believe evolution should be taught in schools, and if they would ever pose for nude photographs.
According to Paula Shugart, President of the Miss Universe Organization (MUO), which also operates Miss USA, these topics are very relevant and in the news.
Others wonder if MUO is just trying to stoke a Carrie Prejean-style controversy in the days preceding its June 19 live telecast.
The girls are scared to death. They witnessed with Carrie Prejean how a firestorm can create a road kill, and nobody wants to be part of a situation like that again, said Keith Lewis, who was embroiled in the Prejean saga in 2009, and is now the executive state pageant director for California, New York and New Hampshire. The girls are concerned that there is a right or wrong answer. Polarizing questions often create a situation where you suffer ... if you agree, and if you do not. The girls need to answer in a way that brings them to a common ground.

How about we keep rabid fruit bats like Perez Hilton off the judges panel?
1. Do you believe evolution should be taught in schools?
A. If the local community and school board feel that it is appropriat, then yes.
2. Would you ever pose for nude photographs?
A. I won’t rule it out. I can see circumstances where this can be done in a tasteful and artistic away. Either that, or an ass-load of money is involved...
1: Would you pose nude for photographs.
2: Yes. Um.. the human body is beautiful...blah..blah...blah...As a matter of fact, I have several videos I’ll gladly show you and the audience.
In light of recent events, I would first check with my constituents in my congressional district and see if it was ok with them.
Hey, let’s ask them quantum physics questions, orbital mechanics questions, etc. etc.
What a joke. We’re looking at their bods.
Period.
When I want bimbo speech, I’ll dial up Catie or the idiot-esses on the View.
I would tell them then, to answer truthfully, genuinely, in a manner which lets them sleep at ease and will make their mothers proud. Give an answer that you can defend easily, should you have to do so, and move on to the next question.
There are more important things in life than producing the "correct" answer in a beauty pageant.
Have you every posted something online that you now regret?
No, I currently have no plans to represent New York in Congress.
Are they prepared for any possible Weiner questions? And what do you think they would be?
Could they maybe just claim the Weiner Preemption?
Game winner HE SHOOTS HE SCOOOOOOORS ! ! !
I guess, “Why would you even ask a question like that? It has no relevence to what we are doing here tonight.” is not a legitimate response.
Funny, Carrie Prejean went on to bigger and better things.
but we know that there is a politically correct answer to polarizing questions.
With Carrie Prejean, the politically correct answer would have been to say that she favored homosexual marriage. If she had answered that way, there never would have been controversy.
Each girl has to make her own decision on how to answer. But I think we all know that if she gives a liberal answer to a polarizing question, then there’s no controversy. That’s the way these things work nowadays.
Can you imagine, even less than 20 years ago, that saying you support marriage as a building block of family and society would get you labeled as bigoted and hateful and evil, the way it does today?????
And anecdotal evidence is that many beauty pageant contestants tend to be more traditional or conservative in their outlook on life, and view of the issues. So they can be tripped up in answering because they tend not be liberal.
How does a hideous, filthy, fecal-eater get to ask questions of beautiful and talented young ladies?
I’m assuming that Donald Trump asked him to. Both shameless self-promoters.
In light of recent events, I would first check with my constituents in my congressional district and see if it was ok with them.
Ding, ding, ding... we have a thread winnah!
