The property owner told police that the gator was meant to keep people off his property ... "Now he'll have to patch up his alligator,"
Doncha just hate it when that happens?

Better a concrete alligator then a live dog.

It wasn't until a second rifle shot bounced off the reptile's head that the officers realized they had mortally wounded a concrete lawn ornament. Masters of situational awareness they were.

Note to self; leave gator costume at home when traveling to KC.
Reno 911 material.

I wonder if this would work with a dog and a tape recorded bark to protect the real Rover.

At my last job at the new refinery at Port Aurthur, Texas the first sign you see entering the plant is “ DO NOT FEED OR DISTURB THE ALIGATORS”!
To: SmithL
This can be easily prevented by giving the cops fake guns.

This is the same type of mentality that causes swat teams to kill do many people and dogs by mistake each year. Shoot first, investigate later.

"They inched up closer and closer..." How would we get by without such brave, brave men?
"...and discovered it was a mock-up of a real alligator made to look like it was real."
You mean a fake?
In the officers' defense, it was growing dark when they shot the fake gator and it was partially submerged in the weeds.
There's a lesson in there for you, Chief Wiggums.
The property owner told police that the gator was meant to keep people off his property, Gentry said. Officers told him a no-trespassing sign would have been wiser.
I see. The cops show up, shoot a fake gator...twice...then start offering advice.
I'd laugh, if I weren't crying.
