“The disease can be fatal to horses and is incurable.”

Herpes, like most all retro-viruses, is incurable in humans as well.

“Horse herpes” may sound silly, but if you’re a horse owner, you’ll know that this is an incredibly dangerous threat.

Horses are herd animals and thus very susceptible to communicable diseases. The first thing they do when they meet each other is to go up and sniff deeply, nostril to nostril. Well, unless they hate each other on sight or from a distance, in which case they start to kick and squeal immediately...

File this under "Headlines You Never Thought You Would See."

Have these words ever occured in this sequence in the history of the English language?

You can get that from horse herpes, I hear.

Yes, it's true...

The vets diagnosed the horses by listening to them canter: the infected horses went clippety-clap.

(Old Saturday Night Live joke, IIRC.)

Cheers!

Or at least the last time I checked Mr. Ed....

No wonder.

Her sister, Satonna Steed, also won.

3 cases confirmed here in Nevada, 2 in Washoe county and 1 in Elko county IIRC.

This outbreak has raised concerns on the annual Reno Rodeo coming up, whether to hold it at all or, if some simply decline to attend/compete how popular the event will be for the fans.

Apparently the EHV (equine herpes virus) has no effect on humans, but it is transmittable to other horse via aerosols (from breathing). Thus it can be transmitted within herds. And it is deadly to horses. In horses it causes myeloencephalopathy.

This is probably the second greatest headline of all time.

The first being, of course, from the NY Post:

but this rodeo queens thing is right up there!
