Grease star Jeff Conaway died today after a drug overdose sent him into a coma two weeks ago.

His family are understood to have decided to turn off his life support machine yesterday.

His ex-girlfriend Vikki Lizzi, who claims she has power of attorney over the 60-year-old, tried to block the move.

The actor, who famously played Kenickie in the hit 1978 film, has been in a deep coma since taking an overdose of painkillers earlier this month.

Conaway's family, who have kept a vigil at the Los Angeles hospital over the past two weeks, have been told by doctors that the star is losing his battle to live, according to Radar Online.

60 years old?! Dang he must have been close to thirty when he was playing a teenager in grease. I remember hearing some trivia a few years back that many of the actors in grease were over 25 and some were even in their 30’s when they made the movie. I thought he was one of the younger ones though.

Damn! I played Kenickie in a local production back in the 80's. I studied him a lot to get the part down.

Conaway had actually played Danny Zuko on stage prior to the filming of Grease. Obviously, the film's director and producers wanted his experience, but went with a bigger name for their lead, so Conaway got the Kenickie part in the film.

LOL!

My wife and I were watching the film version a couple of years ago and I leaned over and started sucking on her neck. She pulled away, and said, "Whaddaya think your doin?" I told her it was "a hickey from Kenickie.", I had never told her before then that I had played the part.

Yes, I don’t usually watch those reality programs...pretty much a Special Report for 1 hour then the set goes off...but I was intrigued enough with that cast on Celeb Rehab to watch a few episodes of a couple of seasons. I got the feeling that Jeff and the drummer were not long for the drummer. Also the grandson of Marvin Davis...he was just a bizarre guy, but in a way a do feel pity for him. I have a feeling he might be the 3rd one from the show to die. I pray he gets a grip, but he just seemed unable to deal with reality. Very sad. Very, very sad.

Conaway was found in his dressing room too high on drugs to perform, and that his dialog for that episode was divided up between fellow co-stars Danny DeVito and Christopher Lloyd

That's kind of ironic. Lloyd played the ex-druggie, while Conaway was the druggie. Maybe Lloyd was playing Conaway.

From the freaky file: I was watching an episode of Babylon 5 when I got the news...and Conaway was on the screen.

RIP ‘Station Chief Zack Allen’

Taxi was a big favorite of mine, up there with Barney Miller. I liked Jeff Conaway as Bobby Wheeler as Zack Allen.

Is “The Drummer” you are referring to Mike Starr, the late bass player for Alice in Chains? Also Marvin Davis loved his lollipops on that show.I wonder if those lollipops were the medicated variety?

ON Celebrity Rehab, Dr Drew told him he was going to end up killing himself.

I knew it wouldn't be long before there was a "Grease Star Jeff Conaway Dead" thread. After seeing him on Celebrity Rehab it was clear his days were numbered.

One of Elvis’s guys, Jerry or Red West, said: “Drugs take you nowhere and leave you there”. Always liked that line. RIP to Conaway.

Why is it that washed-up stars on drugz all seem to end up looking like Nick Nolte?
