Good morning, gardening FReepers!! We finally had a day without rain. I had been waiting and waiting to paint the shed BEFORE planting the ten Knock Out Roses around it. Boy, did I have a lot of help! Who would have thought a five year old was such a good painting buddy. We will plant the bushes today and start on rototilling this weekend.
Good morning. It’s a beautiful sunny morning here on the lower end of DelMarVa. We broke 90 yesterday and I expect it will do so again today.
I broke out my Jerry Baker Tonics book and have started whipping up some of his critter control mixtures. It’s almost time for the Japanese beetles to show up and the ticks have been absolutely HORRID.
Much needed rain here to combat the high temps and dry air. All is going good in our plot. Tons of lettuce still thanks to the earlier cool weather, good showing of collard and chard. Peppers and tomatoes are putting out fruit. Only downside is the flea beetles are already targeting my eggplant.
My neighbor's garden has been very prolific this season. He has kept us in green onion and green tomatoes for about 3weeks or more, along with some potatos and green beans. Another neighbor said his yellow squash is nearing maturity along with many tomatos.
And thats the morning garden reports from Conroe Texas
It’s been raining steadily here since last night.
Almost everything is planted and coming up well. We’ve been eating lettuce, spinach and green onions and have harvested a couple of strawberries. We put up a second trellis to handle the pole beans and chinese long beans, and have one more raised bed box to build and fill. I’ll be planting my Roma tomatoes in that. Other than that, I have to find homes for extra tomato seedlings. I told myself I wouldn’t overdo it this year! Oh well!
Good morning...
Still praying for rain here. Temps are gonna be close to 100 degrees this afternoon.
As usual, I got the soaker hose running on my okra.
Green beans are really producing...tomatoes....and cukes. Squash has slowed down dramatically.
Good Morning RD and All!
Brought the new (if you can call a 1958 new!) Allis Chalmer WD tractor to the Gulch this week... I’m stoked! Blew out the sidewall on the rear tire the first day, and OMG! New tractor tires are in the $400 range!
Found a good used one at a tractor recycle shop on the rim for a third of that so am good to go this weekend to power rototill the acre or so we are using this year. Thought I was back in a war zone when that tire blew! KAWHAMMO!
Temps are still getting down to low thirties at night (N. Mn) so still too early to plant... but the seedlings are looking good in the peat pots in the warming room!
Hey folks, have a Great Memorial Day weekend and may your gardens flourish!
Well...here in western Oregon....wet....wet....wet....went out to the garden this a.m. and there’s a slug hatch....yuck...they are eating my struggling peas...looks like rain for the next few days.....aaaggghhhhh!!!! Tired of Global Cooling....want some of that Global WARMING!
This threw me behind on all the chores here. Plus a bunch of strawberries were ripe. Just finished about 20 lbs yesterday. Hubby just went out to harvest some more, so I can't linger too long today either.
Still haven't planted anything outside. With all the rain, cool temps, and tornadoes/high winds the past 2 weeks I just decided to wait till June.LOL.
Hubby did go ahead and plant a bunch of stuff yesterday. Still enjoying salad from the winter garden, and have a ripe tomato from the indoor pots which we will eat today or tomorrow. It's a nice day today, and the weekend is supposed to be nice, so I may be able to check out the perennials without sinking knee deep in mud.
Have a great weekend. God Bless.
Windy—30 MPH gusts; 10-15 sustained—and a sweat popping (sarc!) 62F so far today...but DRY!
Supposedly mid 40s last night, but my youngest pepper seedlings curled up and turned black their first night moved from the utility room to inside the coop/hutch/pottingshed/greenhouse.
Haven’t decided whether to try replanting with the other half of the seeds, or not. Seems pretty late to try restarting them
The cotyledons of the cuke seedlings withered, also; but not their true leaves.
The summer squash and tomatoes were completely unaffected.
Our chicks arrived today, and are eating, drinking, and making happy-noises in their digs.
Potatoes are finally, after 2+ weeks, starting to break through the soil.
I have low expectations this year, as Spring is just beginning to arrive, and a Summer prior to September looks doubtful. We’re still getting our March winds, and April temps...but above normal rain. And thunderstorms. And more rain. And more rain coming.
I do have 3 more “Carmine Jewel” cherries on the way, which should do fine, judging by our first one that we planted two years ago.
I MAY be able to get the beans planted this weekend.
At least the peas, grains, onions, and garlic are doing great.
Oh, yes! My carrot tapes are a bust. Seems that the “water soluble” glue isn’t; at least not in the real world. I’ll try making more using a flour & water paste.
Fresh fried rabbit (the Other Chicken) for dinner tonight. I’ll be busy over the next few days putting its 8 siblings in the freezer. Meanwhile, the other doe has 6 growing gangbusters. In about a week, I’ll breed the first one again; the current litter of 6 should be 7 weeks old by the time she kindles. There shold be plenty of 2 & 4 legged chickens in the freezer, keeping the venison & turkeys company, by the time winter gets here.
Been eating fresh tomatoes and cucumber salads this week. There is nothing better than a fresh garden salad.

‘Killer Cucumber’ Bug From Spain Hits Britain
Three people in Britain have been diagnosed with a lethal strain of E.Coli that has already killed five people in Germany.
Almost 300 people in northern Germany are in hospital and around 500 more are being tested for the infection.
Organic cucumbers from Spain are thought to be the source of the bacteria, but travellers to Germany are also being advised to avoid eating raw tomatoes and lettuce.
The United States Pilfering Service sucks. Would if kill you to hire GOOD employees that want to do a good job instead of the crooks you currently employ? Just curious.
I found this on my property. Is/was this a morel mushroom? Or an imposter?
