It all depends, I’ve heard some are that simple. I spent a total of 8 days in the ICU, the last 4 on morphine after the stronger drugs started making me see things.

Several friends have had them. Apparently, you should figure out what triggers them. Some foods are dangerous for some, but are alright for others.

Hope you have a great recovery and your experience becomes an isolated experience and a distant memory!

Yes I did and it was not fun. Several hours to pass the stone but half was on pain meds after trip to hospital. Really sucks!

Don’t watch the Dead Wood episodes where a kidney stone is the plot line

I hate to even think about the kidney stone I had 2 years ago. Took them 15 tries to hit a vein and I was in pain till they got it right.

My kidney stone story happened in the summer of 2003. That was the year I went on my big diet and lost over 100 pounds from April 1 to middle of November. I did this by walking over 10 miles each day and sticking to a modified version of Atkins diet (I allowed for normal amount of carbs as my walking was burning them off).

Anyway, it happened on the first day of a family vacation. We were driving to the New Hampshire mountains and as we got over the NH border, I had an excruciating pain in my side. I immediately knew what it was because we had had some hot days and I hadn't been getting enough fluids into my system. That morning, I had done a 8-mile walk on the beach in my bare feet and the bottoms of my feet were rubbed raw by the sand (never take a long walk on beach in bare feet).

The pain got so bad that I had to pull into a rest area and my wife and kids watched me as I rolled around on the grass, writhing in pain. My wife told me later that other people thought I was a drug addict going through withdrawals.

Finally I was able to get to a sitting position and sat there for about an hour under a shade tree while my wife fetched me water and kept pleading for me to let her call an ambulance.

Eventually, I was able to get back in car and my wife drove us rest of way to our hotel. The pain came in waves. As she was checking us into the hotel, I staggered through the lobby, looking for a bathroom. As I was relieving myself, the stone evidently passed as the pain started receding right away. Within an hour, I was at a restaurant having a steak dinner and everything was back to normal.

I've had two. Excruciating. On one I was walking across the living room fine and it just hit full blast. I dropped to the floor right there and CRAWLED to the bed and writhed in agony for 12 hours.

Cranberry juice helps. Also try to avoid soda pop acidified with phosphoric acid.

I thought at one point kidney stones could be pulverized using ultrasound. Has this procedure been discontinued?

Alright, here is my Kidney Stone horror story.
I had 20 stones, over 20 years, and eventually lost the Kidney that produced them all to what was called Kidney cancer, Renal Cell Carcinoma.
Passed a few, had a few lasso’d and removed, had some blasted, by various means and passed the remnants.
Had my first one at 20 years old, and in 2004 they took the kidney with a 14mm stone inside. The good side of losing the kidney is, I haven’t had a stone since!
At the end of my ordeal I had a Dr. tell me to drink some lemon juice (lemonade) every day. He said the acid will help keep them from forming.
Good Luck, I wouldn’t wish them on a Democrat...unless he still supported Obozo! LOL. Just Kidding.

That’s a very good video Meet the New Boss.

I try to drink 1-2 freshly squuezed lemons a day because I take a lot of calcium (with magnesium and zinc) of course.

Even if you have a kidney transplant, you are still risk of kidney stones.

KIDNEY STONES!!!!

Had them 4 times!!! First time I didn't know what was happening. Went to the Navy clinic (I'm USN Retired) on Friday night and the idiot doctor(?) told me I was constipated!!! Game me Milk of Magnesia and sent me home. Monday I'm back, seeing my normal doctor. He finds blood in my urine and sends me to the Naval Hospital for a CAT scan. Sure enough, a stone. Got some GOOD drugs and went home.

Following Friday, the rock is still there and the good drugs are gone!!! Back to the ER, oh that morphine is good!! Finally passed it after 10 days.

Second one lasted 5 days, third one I passed into the urine sample cup at the ER, and the last one I don't know where it went.

Calcium, that's what they said. Here's my theory.

I have GERD. The clinic kept changing their formulary and making me change my GERD meds. Every time that happened the new meds wouldn't work well for a couple of weeks. So I would supplement with Tums. Calcium rich Tums. A few months later, a stone.

You need calcium. What the Tums commercial doesn't tell you is that without VITAMIN D your body cannot assimilate the calcium. You just pee it out. Tums has no Vitamin D.

Had a cousin who got a stone in the 8th month of pregnancy. She had a lot of heartburn in the pregnancy, was eating Tums like candy.

Of all the antacids, only Gaviscon does not use calcium.

Funny thing is, I didn’t know I had one. Woke up at 2 in the morning throwing up. By noon, I hit the Urgent Care Center since I am not at home. Feeling a little better today, but it sure hurts to cough. Want to be at home.
