You probably can't describe the difference between Coke and Pepsi. Perhaps one cola seems sweeter, but you couldn't certainly distinguish them in a taste test. Yet you know without a doubt which one you like more.
The fierce brand loyalties of Coke vs. Pepsi are a marvel of American marketing.
Slightly older, Coca-Cola was always the dominant brand.
Pepsi gained market share in the middle of the century with a series of ad campaigns. In 1975 the first Pepsi Challenge claimed that people preferred Pepsi in a blind taste test. The brand was also marketed as the soda of the new generation, with celebrity spokespeople like Michael Jackson.
Today America's preference is firmly divided by demographics, according to research by Hunch.com. Surprisingly there's a big divide based on wealth and education.
- Coke drinkers are more likely to have graduated college. They also tend to speak more than one language.
- Pepsi fans are less likely to have attended college or speak more than one language.
- Coke people are classy eaters. They're big sushi fans and they've probably tried caviar.
- Pepsi people prefer classic American snacks, like Cheese Whiz and Spam.
- Coke drinkers read the New York Times.
- Pepsi people prefer USA Today.
- Coke drinks consider themselves well traveled. They're also more likely to own a passport.
- There's a good chance that a Pepsi drinker hasn't been on vacation in over 6 months.
- Coke drinkers will show up early.
- Pepsi people will show up on time or late.
- If you prefer Coca Cola, you've probably been to an art gallery.

What if you think they both taste like crap? Well, I recommend that you just stay with the diet water then.

I gave up soda a few years back but once or twice a year i go to the local Mexican restaurant that gets Coke in a 12oz bottle that is made with REAL cane sugar. They take it down to about 35 degrees and hold it overnight. Good stuff.

Yes BS. I think Pepsi tastes nasty and I don't read either the NYT or USA Today. The rest of the comparisons are screwed up too.

I’m a Pepper. Used to be into RC but when I first moved to Tucson they didn’t have it here (this was back in the day when RC advertised how hard it was to find), by the time they got here I had moved on.

Perhaps one cola seems sweeter, but you couldn't certainly distinguish them in a taste test. You can stop reading right there. The author is clearly a fool.

Also, in the South, you order a “Co-Cola”; never Coca-Cola, or Coke.

Me too. When Pepsi changed their logo to look like a near clone of the obama logo, that was the last time I bought a Pepsi when I had a choice between the two.

I’ve found that whenever one asks the two question:
Which do you prefer, Coke or Pepsi?
and
Which is sweeter, Coke or Pepsi?
There is a strong negative correlation between the answers: folks like whichever seems less sweet.
Personally I have no use for either — they are both too sweet — though I quite like Diet Pepsi, the slight bitterness of the artificial sweetener actually improves the flavor, and my waistline appreciates the lack of calories (but not Diet Coke) and somewhat like Cherry Coke (but not “Wild Cherry” Pepsi).

COKE: its not just for breakfast anymore.
I drink a bottle of Coke at 0630 every work day. When I used to get drunk on Saturday night, a Coke in the AM fixed the hang over and settled the stomach.
Pepsi sux....
Mountian Dew Throwback rocks...

I have to respond to these point by point. I drink diet pepsi and can most definitely tell the difference.
Coke drinkers are more likely to have graduated college. They also tend to speak more than one language.
Pepsi fans are less likely to have attended college or speak more than one language.
Graduated and continued education with fluency in one latin based and one non-latin based language. Planning on learning Chinese so I can at least talk to the repo people when the US is bankrupt.
Coke people are classy eaters. They're big sushi fans and they've probably tried caviar.
Pepsi people prefer classic American snacks, like Cheese Whiz and Spam.
I have digested all the above and only once as a joke sprayed cheese whiz in my mouth aka John Belushi style. I have eaten things in different parts of the world that could be the plot for horror films.
Coke drinkers read the New York Times.
Pepsi people prefer USA Today.
Newspapers? What is a newspaper? Don't need no "liberal journalist" interpreting the news and filtering the content for me. Newspapers are for liberals who can't think for themselves and want week old news.
Coke drinks consider themselves well traveled. They're also more likely to own a passport.
There's a good chance that a Pepsi drinker hasn't been on vacation in over 6 months.
My passport inserts would unwind one entire floor of my house. There may have been a Monaco stamp in there somewhere, but only as a transit point. I need to update my about page.
Coke drinkers will show up early.
Pepsi people will show up on time or late.
Always am on time. Period.
If you prefer Coca Cola, you've probably been to an art gallery.
If Pepsi's your drink of choice, you'd rather stay home and watch TV.
TV. What is a TV? I have been to openings out of politeness. That is not my fault.
Coke people love CSI and David Sedaris.
Pepsi drinkers prefer Everybody Loves Raymond and Ellen DeGeneres.
Who? Is it that TV thing again?

Total BS. Coke is an Southern product by reputation. Non-Southern blacks won’t drink it because of that. I can’t remember the number of blacks that have questioned my preference for Coke products.

I like Pepsi Throwback better of the two, because it reminds me of my dad. But, I prefer lemonade. Glad whoever wrote this again reminded me that I am poor white trash (because you are only worthwhile if you attended grad school, according to some) and don’t have the amazing tastebuds for eating bait. BTW, not a fan of Cheez Whiz, either.
