This image shows the first, unprocessed image obtained by NASA's Dawn spacecraft of the giant asteroid Vesta in front of a background of stars. 50 years from now that could be a photo of the last remaining 100 watt incandescent light bulb.

The last APOD listmeister was sig226. It something that really needs to be restarted, and I'd like to try to do that, without making further commitment of time to this fine website.
Thanks go to paulincape for doing the recent postings.
There's an actual APOD source at the NASA website (click the pic to see the current one) so other than list maintenance, there's very little work to do.
Unless someone knows how to contact sig226, the actual ping list will have to be rebuilt, but that's a matter of people wanting to join and telling the pingmeiser.
Oddly enough, running the APOD list won't be rocket science. :')

Well at least it’s not one of those with mercury in it, because it if had a whole planet in it, even a small one, it could be dangerous...

I would love to have that happening again. I wondered what happened.

Wow! What a revealing photo!
How much did this unconstitutional adventure cost me?

I’m sorry he felt the need to completely leave. It gets frustrating at times, but sometimes you just have to take a break for awhile. That’s what I do. I always remember that probably not everyone here is really on the same team, and surely some are just here to cause trouble.

This is my g’night message — an off-list ping to a topic to gauge interest in a revival of the APOD list. It will probably have to be rebuilt from scratch. Pingmeister wanted.
G’night all!

If you look carefully, there seems to be a Saturn-like object behind that asteroid.
Just saying.

Vesta’s a giant asteroid? Who knew! It’s the brightest, I think, and one of the largest, but they’re all small.
