Bowie knife (pronounced /ˈboʊ.iː/ BOW-ee[1][2][3] or /ˈbuː.iː/ BOO-ee[3]) is a style of fixed-blade knife first popularized by Colonel James "Jim" Bowie in the early 19th Century. It was first made by James Black, although its common use refers to any large sheath knife with a clip point.
The "Jim Bowie knife" first became famous due to Bowie's use of a large knife at a duel known as the Sandbar Fight. The knife pattern is still popular with collectors; in addition to various knife manufacturing companies there are hundreds of custom knife makers producing Bowies and variations.

Sorry to rain on your parade but cheap knives are made with cheap steel. They look nice but don’t trust your life to it. The blade will break when you most need it and it probably won’t hold an edge.

Pakistan makes some choice knives, bowie and other. Tend to be solid and good steel, and they sell them on ebay. At one time, they also tended to hold triumpal graphics and engravings celebrating 9/11, often advertising as 9/11 commemorials not pointing out the origin.

I love vintage bowie knives. If its going to sit on a shelf and look pretty then its fine. If someone expects to use it for a task which made mean their safety then a cheap knife is not classy.
The ebay add says ‘surgical stainless steel’ to imply quality. What it really means is a brittle blade good for one use.

Not cheap though but it should last through anything I can throw at it.

Careful you don't poke yer eye out with that, or drop it onto your foot.
I prefer skinners, they are more manageable.

Had one made custom made by this guy w/ a Cocobolo handle. Seems to hold its edge. There are lots of good knife makers out there. He's a nice guy to work with... he sent 8 samples for me to look at B4 I committed.
