As part of the a long standing tradition Buckingham Palace and HRM Queen Elizabeth has bestowed new titles on Prince William and his new bride Kate Middleton as part of the Royal Wedding.
William is now the Baron Carrickfergus, Duke of Cambridge and Earl of Strathearn which links him to Ireland and Scotland as well as England. His grandmother Queen Elizabeth has given him these titles to mark his wedding day. His new bride also takes on the the titles.
The palace released a statement which read "The queen has today been pleased to confer a dukedom on Prince William of Wales. His titles will be Duke of Cambridge, Earl of Strathearn and Baron Carrickfergus
Prince William thus becomes His Royal Highness The Duke of Cambridge and Miss Catherine Middleton on marriage will become Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge."

I had Carrickfergus once but a little Gold Bond powder cleared it right up.
I thought they were talking about golfing in Ireland.
OMG - it’s a good thing I wasn’t drinking something when I read this...
LOLOL!
Too much information.
I thought Hummmble was drinking...until I read it above.
Nobility of heart is far greater than inherited nobility. Let us hope that they have the former.
Just as a casual watcher, considering his behavior in the field of battle and public demeanor, Harry seems to have some good stuff in him.
I thought Fergie was already cracked ?
Didn’t we fight a war to get away from hearing about this B.S.?
Our Founding Fathers are spinning in their graves.
Not that it means much but I am descended from several Earls of Strathearn and William is my 13th cousin (I wasn’t good enough to get an invite to the wedding haha)
Didn’t know we had royalty in Ireland.
Where is Strathearn anyway?
I haven’t been to Carrickfergus, but there is lovely traditional tune of the same name.
And County Antrim is drop-dead gorgeous.
Not in the modern-day Republic, no, but in old Ireland yes.
And Carrickfergus is in the North, i.e., the U.K.
I wouldn't trade them all for for her hand made quilt. Any descendant of tyrants and pompous ass royals can cook up silly "nobility titles" but only a real grammy can make a quilt like that.
South-central Scotland in the Shire of Perth.
Oh, now that must be nice. I haven’t been to Scotland at all.. yet.
So, who are the first cousins from whom you and William of Wales are descended?
Not everyone can be as humble and simple as you and your quilt either. You should feel pity for the royals.
Yawn. Who really cares? How much longer is this going to go on?
