I recieved the following e-mail from Senator Mark Warner yesterday:
"April 28, 2011
Dear Friends:
I've heard from many of you about the skyrocketing gas prices and I understand the strain that these dramatic increases are placing on family budgets.
Finding the lowest gas prices in your area and researching alternative ways of reducing your fuel consumption can help ease the burden of these cost increases.
Finding the lowest prices in your area will ensure immediate savings at the pump. The following link will allow you to find the lowest gas prices in your area in a fast and convenient way.
I would also recommend the Department of Energy's guide to fuel economy. It offers several helpful tips that will help you reduce your fuel consumption and maximize the gas mileage in your automobile.
I am a strong advocate for an "all of the above" approach to energy, and I believe the United States should lead the world in producing the clean, safer fuels of the 21st Century.
I hope these resources help you reduce your fuel costs and drive in a smarter, more wallet-friendly manner. If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact my office.
Sincerely,
Senator Mark Warner"
At the end of the e-mail was the following survey:
"How should we address rising gas prices?
o Invest in renewable energy technologies
o Go after oil companies who artificially raise prices
o Release oil from the strategic petroleum reserve
o Open up more areas for drilling for oil in the U.S.
o Increase production of natural gas and increase incentives for natural gas powered vehicles
o Eliminate corporate tax breaks for oil companies"
My response posted on the Senator's website:
"Dear Senator Warner,
Take the staffer who wrote the survey you sent out on how to address rising gas prices out back to be shad planked!
It's obvious you and your staff are just as well informed about the oil and gas industry as Congressman Dan Boren says the Obama administration is.
The answers offered don't allow the educated voter to cogently respond. First off, addressing the symptom of rising gas prices isn't the problem at hand. The problem to be addressed is what is the plan for America to achieve energy independence in an economical and environmentally friendly manner? The creation of the Department of Energy in the 1970's has only confounded the situation by creating a multi-billion dollar bureaucracy. A multitude of other government organizations in the current administration are further hampering the DOE's mission by imposing politically motivated environmental decisions on oil and gas exploration. Why are various branches of the government working against each other to the detriment of American businesses and American consumers?
America's approach to energy needs to be an all of the above approach with the first actions to open up existing areas for oil and natural gas exploration and drilling in the U.S., our territorial waters and economic zones.
Let private entrepreneurs invest in renewable energy technologies with lucrative tax breaks. Tell the DOJ to pack sand as it's the multitude of government environmental restrictions on gasoline formulation that causes spikes every spring as our refineries switch to summer production methods, and hands off the strategic petroleum reserve except to use it for what it was established for.
Yes, I'm checking the block for a response, but don't bother unless it comes back with an educated answer or bloody splinters from the plank (just kidding!)"
Yeah, our house got one of those too. They always try to make the options as liberal as possible.
And stop financing our competitors in the exploration and drilling for oil that will then be sold to us if we agree with them politically.
Our government is broken, and our citizenry is sick of heart, empty of head, and void of a cohesive world view other than I am going to feed off my neighbors labors until there are no more neighbors.
The only way to be free is to be totally subservient to government control. One world government is the only way to be free. We must all conform.
Count me out, please.
Senator Warner is himself a symptom of this illness by his presence in office.
I was with you until you said this. I don't want the government selecting winners and losers. "lucrative tax breaks for renewable energy" is not the free market way of directing capital investment. We have the Chevy volt and ethanol subsidies as the result of such policies.
Dear Senator Warner; thank-you so much for your cogent e-mail with the link to help me find lower gas prices. You will find a link on this e-mail to “Things Smarter Than Senator Warner”. It takes you to a photo of a horse turd. Love and kisses! A constituent.
Condescending clueless crap from Warner (I also got the e-mail)
He’s even dumber than I thought he was. Wow. And people call him a “reasonable moderate” Democrat.
Senator Warner is a real dork...can’t believe my state elected this ‘businessman’. He, too, is as much a poseur in his own way as is his boss in the White House. He went dark during the whole sad Obamacare saga only to emerge as the deciding vote (each one of them can be considered the deciding vote). He is a government teatsucker who parlayed his access to ‘federal’ bandwidth into a personal fortune, then as governor, raised taxes on the much ballyhooed ‘working families’ of Virginia. Several years back he flirted with a run for higher office but curiously and rather quietly dropped the idea...perhaps a rock out two out there he would just as soon remain unturned; rather odd for a Democrat. I hope for his return to the private sector at the earliest possible time.
Missing in all the hoopla about “cheapest” is the quality of fuel you put in the tank. Poor fuel results in poor performance, lowered fuel economy, possible short/long term engine damage, and increased owner maintenance costs. Wanna replace your tankkk-mounted fuel pump/intake screen ? Or have your multi-point injectors removed and cleaned ?
America’s “energy problem” is inside the Beltway. We have the resources in abundance. We have the technology to find, develop and exploit them to maximum efficiency. Our economy is, ( ar at least was, not too long ago) the most efficient in the world at creating value/product per ton of CO2 emission.
The current watermelon arguments are merely a reprise of communist self-sufficiency pogroms resulting in the peasants melting down of high-quality steel to make low-quality hoes/picks that soon wore out.... >PS
