Tony Horton used to be a stand-up comedian. Now he's the front man for P90X and a millionaire exercise guru. So is he an infomercial salesman? Or a fitness savior?
*****
Beyond the compelling marketing, there are two reasons why P90X is so popular. First, Horton is the perfect front man. At 5´10* and 180 pounds with 9 percent body fat, he is genuinely ripped. He says he can consecutively do 110 pushups, 80 dips, 35 pullups, and eight 260-pound lat pulls. Plus, he can hold a handstand for a minute and even do a backflip off a wall. To prove it, he often drops to the floor and pumps out a few reps of whatever exercise he's talking about. His motto, which he wears on the back of his shirt, is "Bring It!" Along with the brawn, he has a full head of hair andeven under the harsh QVC makeup lightsno telltale signs of any nips or tucks. And, to the delight of the housedress set, he's not married.
But second, and most important, P90Xunlike the garbage heap of other "miracle" infomercial productscan deliver results. That's because it's built on such proven fitness principles as consistency, intensity, and variety, and you don't need special gadgetsjust a pullup bar and dumbbells (or resistance bands). Simply pop a disc into your DVD player, move the couch out of the way, and follow along with Tony and his gang.

You like this burn out fast approach?
I think, like all forms of exercise, it is better suited for some than for others, and has its place in an exercise regimen.
I take it that you decided P90x was not for you?
Just curious, why do you think this is thread worthy ?
Thanks Tony, I guess.
oh yes... we bought p90x last month... i guess i should start using it...
I’ll admit, I broke down and bought the P90X workout a week ago. I haven’t received it yet, so obviously haven’t started it. In my research, it was amazing that this program gets almost zero negative reviews or feedback from users. It’s worth a shot, although I remain skeptical until I try it.
Lost 65lbs in 7 months with P90x and eating clean. Best shape of my life. A program not for someone who thinks “walking” with the wife after dinner is exercise. Wanna lose weight and keep it off, it’s do resistance training to muscle failure, get your heartrate up 4-6 times a week and stop shoving garbage in your pie hole. I puked the first time I did P90x and by my second round, I could run a 5k in 21 minutes, do 60 pushups, 15 pullups and make love to the wife like a college sophomore. “Bring it” or go for a “walk” and stay soft and full of excuses.
The HIT approach is the most effective approach to becoming fit, but it is hard.
hey- we’re not ALL politics here!
I have been thinking about getting P90X- anyone have experience with it?
I love freeper referrals- I trust them more than anything else and have never gone wrong...
Wait, learned people actually buy this stuff? I think I’ve seen the commercial for this product mixed in with the “coaching” (aka: create a website and make millions) programs at like 4 AM on the SyFi channel. I had just assumed this was another bowflex type rip off.
P90x works and is like you said, not for wimps.
You’ll never look at P90x’s German potato soup girl, Maren, the same way again after reading this:

GRrrrrrrrr..~! I could almost see you gritting your teeth through all that!
How does the wife feel about the college sophomore thing?
Your mind adjusted your body. Not this ‘magic pill’.
I used to do HIT for weight training and I got very good results.
I got strong enough to squat 400 pounds twice. I weighed 140 lbs.
I have been doing P90X for 2 years and I am a big believer. I look like a freaking Adonis now! All kidding aside, I do switch workout regimens in the fall and winter due to burnout.
What chemicals did you ingest to make yourself feel superior?
Eat less, eat better, exercise more. Those 3 things do the trick for almost anyone willing to stick with it. Gradual lifestyle changes work in the long term, crash course fitness usually doesn't because it becomes a labor and people quit and go back to their bad habits.
