I hate to say it, but I get the same feeling from this guy that I got from Reagan 1979. I rememeber everyone cursing out Ronnie the same way "Oh he's B movie actor, he don't know what he is doing, he's a cheap talker, doing it for attention, dyes his hair, wears makeup, he's a fraud"...but me and my buddys we just *KNEW*...That's the feeling I'm getting from Trump. In 1979, we even made up "Reagan is God" bumper stickers just to piss off the liberals, completey over the top declerations, and I'm tempted to do the same with Trump.
Palin, Romney, I just don't feel it with those two. Yes we all have ideal candidates, but I just want someone guaranteed to to kick this Obamination out and I think this guy could do it and quite easily. We CANNOT risk this Obamination doing a 2nd term! NO NO NO! Can you imagine Trump debating Obamination? He would absolutely destroy him, no question.
Reagan started as a Democrat. He had been the head of an influential Union. He routinely hobbnobbed with some of the most liberal left-wing people on the planet.
If he was alive now and running for office, there’d be a stampede of FReepers ready to burn him at the stake!
That would be true if Obama debated, but he just drifts off into long diatribes and doesn’t respond. Unless there’s someone to make him respond, there’s no real debate.
It’s possible that Trump could make him mad enough to lose his cool and blurt out some truth, but I think he takes enough happy pills before situations like that to keep him cool.
Trump reeks of Perot...down to the business 'know-how' and the bad hair.
Trump didn't either.
Wrong. We need someone who is conservative. If you buy his conversion why not buy Romney’s or McCains, or Huckster,Or Clinton, No He is no Reagan and never could be.
Hence my suggestion of a Trump/West ticket. West could then come in in 2016 and run as an incumbent VP for the big prize.
I flip back and forth on Trump, at this stage, I’m watching and listening...but...here’s my thought:
On personality, even personal integrity, Trump, admittedly, isn’t fit to shine Reagan’s old shoes.
However, both men have a love for America, and a way to say it like it is and how it needs to be said.
Yes - he must be vetted, let me get that out there first.
However, maybe, just maybe, in today’s American Idol/Celebrity Apprentice/Dancing With The Stars/Reality TV world, Trump IS the Reagan of this generation.
See tagline. It’s in jest, but, they ARE quite friendly to one another on TV. Palin has praised Trump and Trump has expressed admiration for Palin, while not quite being so nice to Romney.
Interesting theory.
However, it’s just possible that Trump has just enough influence that when he wants to be on, you let him on your show.
Oh and there’s this thing called RATINGS. People will tune in when you say “tonight Donald Trump will be on to discuss XXXXX” that might tune out if they say “tonight, Sarah Palin will be on to discuss XXXXX”.
In this American Idol world, FAR different culturally from 1979/80 (regrettably, yes), Trump could be this generation’s Reagan.
In Maryland that would be easy, since 1 out of 5 cars still has an Obama ‘08 sticker on it.
Considering the hot women Trump has had, he might do OK with the ladies, too.
Although his billions probably didn’t hurt his success rate any.
Damn!
If you are right and the Republicans put forth a lukewarm candidate, then why should the independent Conservative need to back down?
I say the Republican Party should back down.
Why is it that Conservatives should always be the one to back down in a three way race “for the good of” the country, etc?
When will conservatives grab their balls and be able to run a three way race against a Republican party that time and time again has failed?
Should we do it now or wait four more years and try again then, and in the meantime accept a “the best we can do for now” candidate?
What the hell kind of manby-pamby approach is that?
And so what if Trump is newly converted?
Better newly converted and can win that never converted and can never win, which is what the Republican Party has shown us it is now and forever more will be.
Wake up people. Grab the brass ring here.
What you said.
I never said an independent conservative would or should back down.
What I said was that in a 3-way between Zero, Trump as an Independent, and some Real-man Romney type pubbie BS, then Zero would win, Trump would easily come in second, and all the party-line pubbies would end up being the spoilers.
Why?
If your answer is “because mainstream Republicans will never vote conservative”, then my question is:
Whose problem is that?
Why what?
If you don’t see what I said, read the rest of my posts on the thread, including those that spoke about Reagan.
Trump will be the “Perot for ‘12”, if Trump does decide to run as an Independent candidate for ‘12 POTUS, instead! If Trump really does care for the U.S., then why does he keep threatening to, possibly, run as an Independent candidate for ‘12 POTUS, and knowing that such a move would, probably, guarantee the re-election of Barack Obama for four additional years?
