Americans are fretting over the rising cost of gasoline, and are now paying above $4 a gallon for gas in some spots in the country.
But that $4 a gallon number is nothing compared to some corners of the earth, where high taxes drive gas prices higher.
Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GTZ), a German research firm, reviewed prices in November of 2010, and found some countries with gas costing more than $9 a gallon. And that's BEFORE the surge in oil prices spurred on by instability in the Middle East,
This data also provides a little clarity as to why European countries are so inhibited by the rising price of Brent, as their economies already are burdened by high gas prices due to taxes, according to GTZ

I realize Texicans think big, especially on the anniversary of San Jacinto (congrats, BTW), but let's not get carried away.
Length of I-10 across TX - 880 miles.
Lisbon to Vilnius = 2600 miles. And that's roughly halfway across Europe.
I think 0 and his PETA friends would OUTLAW it before you can fish all day!! With the gas at $7, you'll ha\/e to either sail out to the lake -- or row.
The point is that Texas is just one state among 48 contiguous states. The small compact size of European countries and the rebuilding after WWII made it practical to develop rail travel for those who must travel outside of their home area to work. Their infrastructure for transportation would not be practical to implement in this country. They do not have to depend solely on automobiles to travel to work, recreation or shopping. Transporting goods does not require the same distances for most goods. Boats, trains, planes and trucks all require some form of petroleum based fuel.
One other consideration in the question of the price of oil. Oil is not used solely for transportation fuel. Oil is used for many of the products and medicines we rely on today which means that along with higher transportation costs on goods there will be significantly higher costs in producing these products we obtain from oil.
Everything is fine now, the people can fan themselves with paper and complain about the heat, or fight $300 electric bills.
This winter though, When it costs $2000 a month to heat a home - This is our hard-deck for riots. No one can afford this.
$3.62/gallon tonight in my town.
No no no no no. We must SAVE our coal, oil, and natural resources until such time that green tech advances have made them worth as little as 1% of their current value. That way, we can deprive the American people of another $10-20 Trillion! Aren’t Liberal economic plans ingenious?!!
Liberals couldn't run a LEMONADE STANS profitablity, yet they know how to run the US economy. They do not hae any business sense.
I wonder what the MILES per GALLONS is for that \/echile!!! A YUGO would be a LUXERY CAR next to that!!! :-)
