Beam me up, Scotty; scientists have finally done it! Using what looks like an incredibly complicated setup, scientists have not just figured out how to transport information using the quantum highway; they have actually made it happen.
>
To do this, the researchers developed a "broadband, zero-dispersion teleportation apparatus" and a whole new set of "hybrid protocols involving discrete- and continuous-variable techniques in quantum information processing for optical sciences," along with some other things that I completely do not understand. In the end, the researchers managed to 'remove' the quantum information from space, and it was resurrected in another place.
>
Elanor Huntington, a professor at the University of New South Wales who participated in the study, says that "one of the limitations of high-speed quantum communication at present is that some detail is lost during the teleportation process. It's the Star Trek equivalent of beaming the crew down to a planet and having their organs disappear or materialise in the wrong place. We're talking about information but the principle is the same--it allows us to guarantee the integrity of transmission."
Is she saying that not only will we be able to transport information on a global scale almost instantly but that we might also be able to transport objects? It sure sounds like it.

Neither here and there ping.
We call this an e-mail here in poohville .....;o)
I read this article yesterday somewhere else and thought about posting it but figured it already had been, and see? I was right.
reassembling matter is a wee bit tougher than information
My CRC would be huge.
Uhm.. no. Matter and information are not the same. Sending information is easy. Just send a fax. But the fax machine recreates the information. The actual paper is still at the original end of the fax machine. We do not have the technology to create any type of matter at an atomic level at any speed. Don't get me wrong, instantaneous communication has incredible applications, but they need to stop calling it transporting.
I posted this yesterday. It didn't appear because you thought about it.
I guess I should hang on to my car a while longer.
You mean, we could get rid of Obama,-snap- just like that?
You mean, we could get rid of Obama,-snap- just like that?
For that you'd need a zero-dispersion teleprompter apparatus.
The Fly.
Don’t volunteer for any experiments....
Dont volunteer for any experiments...look what happened to me...
You put your whole self in,
You put your whole self out;
You put your whole self in,
And you shake it all about.
You do the Hokey-Pokey,
And you turn yourself around.
That’s what it’s all about
What if the Hokey-Pokey really IS what it’s all about?
It was simply their observation of that information that made it look like information.
If they had not observed it, it would not have exhibited itself in that manner:)
Gotta love that Quantum Logic lol
