::Sigh:: Anybody know why my Windows Media Player plugin for Firefox isn't working?

You all know that I've been having computer problems. My old computer died and this is a used one I bought to replace it, and it spent a week in the shop as well.

Anyway, one of the great things about the Internet is getting to listen to radio and watch television in exotic foreign languages. But for some reason suddenly my Mozilla Firefox can't support live streaming via Windows Media Player. And I have the plugin! I downloaded it myself. It's there; I checked! So please don't tell me to download what I already have.

I just want to know why it isn't working!

Well it’s not that I don’t understand how they work.....it’s pretty straightforward. You have a media/file type you wish to play, you specify the app. that will play it in FF. Some, as you’ve pointed out, require plugins and you say you have the requisite plugin. I assume you’re using the latest version of FF.

Usually the best approach is look at “what changed from when it worked to now” and work from there. Did an older version of FF or the plugin work? Did an update screw it up? If so, downgrade to an earlier version, etc. It’s not rocket science; it’s usually an issue of proper versions/combinations of browser, plugin(s), viewers, etc.

I don't mean the main wpm interface. I mean pages that have embedded live broadcasts where the embedded player is supposed to appear on the page and play the broadcast.
I would imagine the embedded live broadcasts use the same WPM "engine" as the main interface.
If the new WPM plays videos alright (as a standalone program), it has to be a Firefox or FF plugin issue.
Have you tried re-installing Firefox?

Can you post a link to a website that is not allowing you to view the wmp stream?

Certain privacy and adblocking addons for FF will block WMP streaming. Specifically NoScript.

If you have NoSCript installed, fo to NoScript Options|Advanced|Untrusted|Forbid other plugins. ... and UnForbid other plugins.

Also if Noscript is blocking JavaSCript, WMP extension will not always work do to WMP extension requires Javascript to work correctly.

Also, you got the add-on directly from the software company?:

sorry for the typos.

If you post a link that is not working for you , it’ll help out anyone who can give you more advice.

MY other suggestion would be to try Opera browser or ChromiumPlus, it’s worth it, both are extremely fast to render pages compared to FF4 or IE9.

You need to see if you have Java(TM) Platform SE 6 U24 32bit or whatever is the newest Java, installed, the WMP player add-on is dependent on it.

Read this for suggestions:

So far as I know, I don't have "NoScript."

Can you read Hebrew? Because I like to listen to Radio 2000. And it depends on wmp.

If you can't read Hebrew, go here

According to my "about:plugins" I have the latest Java (Next Generation Java Plug-in 1.6.0_24 for Mozilla browsers), platform SE 6 U24 (whatever that means).

Let me know if those sites work for you.

I hope you understand that my problem isn’t with Java. I have Java on Firefox and it works fine. But embedded wmp doesn’t work there (only in IE, which I don’t like).

Remove Winamp.

Why is it the computer on which I didn't have this problem also had Winamp?

Furthermore I just checked, and Winamp is not listed in my Add/Remove Programs menu.

WMP 11 may not work on your OS, depends on how old it is. You may need to go back to 9

I just now installed FF4 as an upgrade from 3.6x and had the WMP addon work on both your links,
but again, I had to allow the streams to load through NoScript, as you don’t have it installed, you shouldn’t have trouble..

So why are you?
I really am not sure beside the common problem of people not installing Java before installing the WMP add-on.

Good luck,

Apparently you didn't notice that until I updated today I had and older version of wmp, and it didn't work either.

Please forgive my frustration, but I have made it clear that I have Java on my Firefox and it works just fine. It's the Firefox wmp plugin and that alone that doesn't work.

Did you ever get that other problem straightened out? Lurking malware can create a lot of havoc

I removed my wmp Firefox plugin and went back to those pages to see what would happen. It prompted me to download the plugin, but failed to do so automatically, requiring me to do so manually. I did this. Then I reloaded the page. And guess what? It asked me to download the plugin again, even though I had just done so.

Any ideas?
