At one point in the second debate, Keyes, accused Obama saying, “You are not even a natural born citizen!”
To which Obama immediately replied, “So what? I am running for Illinois Senator, not the presidency.”
At the end of the airing of the second debate, the C-Span host noted, as he read from a single sheet of paper, placed before him, that the Obama Campaign had contacted them and requested them to point out to their viewers that Obama’s response here should not be understood as a denial that he is a natural born citizen, only that Keyes’ accusation had nothing to do with the qualifications of office of a U.S. Senator.

Yes and No. He appears to be saying he agrees that he is not a NBC but he can wiggle out of that one fairly easily but simply saying that Keyes statement didn’t mean anything as he is only running for Senate so there is no point in debating his NBC status.

If I remember correctly, Alan Keyes said it never happened.
If he didn’t know then, he certainly knew during the SR511 when Leahy and Chertoff discussed of the definition of NBC meaning TWO US CITIZEN PARENTS and he signed his name to it.
This makes no sense. Why would Keyes even bring up Obama’s natural-born citizenship at a Senate debate? Alan Keyes is a brilliant man and an astute Constitutional scholar. Surely he knew the qualifications for being a Senator.
Guys, this video exists. At least it did, because I saw it myself. It was waaaayyy back when Obama’s eligibility wasn’t yet the thing.

Considering the lawsuits, I would expect that Mr. Keyes has this video, if he ever got a copy of it. Whoever made the video may have destroyed it by now or whatever.
But he did say it. I saw the video and heard his words.

But I was present in Illinois during the time in question. Believe me, somebody with a vivid imagination made this up.
Keyes himself has also shot this down a number times as well.
