I would like Jacob to sing “So Far Away” and then to go there.

Andy Williams has a ginormous head too. Ever notice? Ginormoser than Cookie’s.

Another ginormous head on their body: I Carly on Nickelodeon. She’s got a tiny body and a ginormous head.

Jacob has toned down since the early days but you know what they say about first impressions. I think Jacob is dressing more conservatively and toning down his persona. He can sing but those first impressions....

Yeah I know but I couldn’t remember his last name so I figured everyone would know who I meant if I mentioned the mole! :)

The worst celebrity mole of all time was John Boy’s mole on that old tv show. He finally got his removed but years later. I can’t remember that tv show. Pop culture of the 20th century must not be that important to me at this point.

And that's why he's outsold David Cook by millions, right? What's that, it's the other way around? Wonder how that could possibly be.....

Different strokes for different folks. Seems there's just flat our more that like Cook than those that like archie...

” She got voted off imo cuz she looked like a block of stone singing well.”

She does look like she is doing a balancing act on a ladder that is tilting.....

Tony Orlando and Dawn outsold George Jones. The Monkees outsold The Jeff Beck Group. The Archies had the number one single of the year in 1969, beating out The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Temptations and The Supremes.

I guess you're right. America has a real nose for quality.

I’d vote for Lauren if I could. I work Wednesday nights and tape the show.

Or it could be that archie's music just sucked...

Top selling artists of all time - The Beatles, Elvis, Michael Jackson. Funny, I think our nose for quality works quite well. Also among the top sellers - Led Zeppelin, Queen, Elton John, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, AC/DC, and the Rolling Stones.

Seems to me that the number of record sales is a pretty good indication of quality for the most part.

It’s so interesting to me to see the different perspectives people have on the performances, glad we both enjoyed Haley. She gets beat up on a lot.

After last night, I was thinking what an intense, grueling experience this is for the contestants, especially as they get whittled down. In fact, Haley appears to be wasting away into nothing and Lauren looks to have dropped about 30 pounds.

This is an endurance contest and a challenge on so many levels. I salute them all for doing it.

Well, it was Stefano and I think he went in great style.
Loved his final song and performance, in soul man mode.
He showed grace and some people do better when the pressure is off.

I disagree with your take on America's tastes. America's musical tastes are dictated by independent promoters, 12-year-old girls and commercial interests that have nothing to do with music.

Most Americans have never heard of Charlie Parker (or Samuel Barber). Most Americans think Country Music Radio Stations play country music.

(BTW, I'm a pariah on these threads. Reply to me at risk of your reputation. If you keep posting to me someone will come along and make veiled references to feeding the troll.)

Will any of the judges ever have the balls to say “You know what, when you finish outside the Top 3, chances are we’re never going to hear from you ever again.

Will a judge ever say that instead of giving these kids false hope?

These kids have a far better chance of being heard from again as a result of their Idol experience than folks who never made the show. Jennifer Hudson came in 7th, Constantine Maroulis (Tony nomination) came in 6th, Mandisa (two Grammy nominations) came in 9th.

What these kids get is entree into the business. They get recruited for Broadway shows, the songwriters among them get to use their Idol cache to meet people who can help them in every strata of the biz.

They can't call be stars; there isn't room for all of them. They can use Idol as their career launching pad. The talented ones do. Chris Sligh came in 10th and wrote a song for Rascal Flatts. Trenyce came in 5th and had a Grammy nomination and was on Broadway. There are many, many Idol alumni who are doing musical theater. It's a job in show business. Nice work if you can get it!

I disagree with your take on America's tastes.

I don't always agree with America's taste, either. Don't understand Katy Perry or Kayne West's popularity, for that matter. However, you made a statement that was presented as fact, when it was really just your opinion. My opinion is the exact opposite of yours. Doesn't make it a fact either.

I happen to believe that David Cook is a much better artist than David Archuleta. Sure, David can sing, but just because someone has a great voice does not make them a great artist, and vice-versa. At least that's my opinion, and your mileage may vary. :-)

Reply to me at risk of your reputation.

I've been around here long enough that I'm not worried about my reputation. If you'll notice, I don't post much, so maybe my motivation was to "feed the troll". (not really, but you never really know, do you?)

Anyway, you wrote something that I disagreed with, and we've had a civil discussion about that disagreement. I'm cool. Hope you are...

Who do you think will go next week?

I couldn't begin to guess. I won't know who I think should go until I hear Wednesday night's performances.

My favorites are, in order,

1) Lauren (She should sing "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow")
2) Jacob ("So Far Away")
3) James ("Don't Bring Me Down")
4) Haley ("I Feel The Earth Move")
5) Scotty ("You've Got A Friend")
6) Casey ("Up On The Roof" or "It's Going To Take Some Time," and he should sing either accompanied only by his standup bass)

For me there's not a heck of a lot separating these performers. It's anybody's game. They all have to be on fire next week, and it'll be hard with Ms. King's songs, most of which are stunning and perfect but downtempo.

Hopefully voters won't be too put out by the nature of the material. I think Carol King can do no wrong but it might be an intimate show.

” My Carole king picks for next week:

Haley - I Feel the Earth Move (dedicate it to Japan)

Lauren - Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow

Casey - Up on the Roof

Scotty - You’ve Got a Friend

James - this is hard, maybe Smackwater Jack? There must be a better one for him?

Jacob - this one is hard too - maybe Where You Lead? Or You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Man - noooo...”

I like them. Didn’t recall Smackwater Jack, so googled it and listened.

Think it would be good for James to do it.

Different than his to date choices and to me, sets him up for a head to head with either Scotty or Lauren who are good /excellent country oriented singers.

Jacob - LOL on your commentary
