So who is the real “Black Swan”?
Ironically, a film about a ballerina who is haunted by a doppelganger is dealing with critical comments being made by a dance double who worked on the movie–and now the director is weighing in.
Sarah Lane, Natalie Portman’s dance double in “Black Swan,” told the Wall Street Journal this weekend that she did the overwhelming majority of the dancing in the film. “I should specify the actual percentage of dancing that Natalie did,” Lane said in one email. “They are saying that it was 85-90% of the dancing but I can tell you honestly that it was about 5% of the on-screen dancing.”

I know some people who got oscars for writing a screenplay they didn’t write. And they’ve never “written” anything since. But it was a great marketing campaign.
marni nixon did the actual singing in the Sound of Music, and she actually did show up a bit on camera, but never got the credit she deserved.
Portman should answer with, “When Obamma gives back hi Nobel Priae, I’ll return my Oscar”
This happens alot to dancers, who spend their lives perfecting their art. I have not seen the film, but my ballet dancing daughter has read about this film for awhile in her “Pointe” magazine.
Sarah Lane is a beautiful dancer. I saw her when she danced ABT’s new “Sleeping Beauty” when she first became Principal from soloist. She has moved quickly up in a very challenging company. ( Half the dancers in ABT aren’t Americans)
The actress Natalie, has been claimed to been “dancing” for a year to do this part. In the comments at the linked article, it is mentioned you DON’T see Natalie on pointe.
That does it right there. You can not do REAL ballet without being on POINTE. If she couldn’t get to being on pointe, then she was barely learning to do tendu’s, never mind the strength required for more challenging work, like fouette’s.
Sarah deserves to have more recognition for her work and her years of training.
There names didn’t happen to be Ben & Matt, did they?

Second thought - What is this movie about. I still don't know.
I can almost imagine how they pitched it to the Weinstiens. After they were done - and saw the blank looks on the Weinstien's face, I'm sure someone said, "And, Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis are going to get naked together." That was it.
And they used three body doubles in “Flashdance”. At least one was a dude.
She sang only one song in Sound of Music, as Sister Sophia. She was the singing voice of Deborah Kerr, Natalie Wood and Audrey Hepburn in the Motion Pictures and on the Soundtracks of The King and I, An Affair to Remember, West Side Story, and My Fair Lady.
The ballerina is an idiot. The time to negotiate your credits is when you sign your contract. You don’t wait until the star wins her Oscar. This is old news. People portray genius talent in movies all the time, and guess what? The actors can’t play virtuoso piano, sing opera, dance like magic, or play amazing sports. Do you think Tom Cruise is a real naval aviator? So they get talent to do those scenes.
This dancer should have kept her mouth shut and enjoyed her paycheck.

I certainly do. She’s been a fine actress since she was a teen (The Professional—awesome acting and film) and did a great job in this film too. I don’t know if she was told to tell people that she did all that dancing. But, since most of the actors and actresses have doubles to prevent injury, I’m not surprised.
If people paid this kind of attention to Obambi’s credentials than silly stuff like this, we’d all be better off.

That's a fair point, and one that shouldn't be undersold. But, Top Gun producers never claimed that Cruise was an "amazing" aviator, or that Jamie Foxx was a virtuoso cello player, or that King Kong was a crazy-talented ape that worked for bananas.
In the run-up to awards season, and epecially the Oscars, there was a concerted PR campaign that claimed Portman did almost all her own dancing. It seems that was a lie.
Surprise is there wasn’t a non-disclosure contract with damages if this happened.
But... it could be a publicity stunt to renew interest in the film prior to DVD.
I think this falls into the same catagory as Flash Dance with Jennifer Beal, I think at the end of the movie the last dance in front of the judges was done by a guy/stunt dancer.
Most awesome dance routine there ever was, was part of Roberto Duran’s warmups when he was still fighting as a lightweight; I mean, try to picture somebody doing Cossack dances, thighs more or less parallel to the ground with a jump-rope, switching the rope until the rope gets to be just a blur and keeping that up for several minutes. Baryshnikov and Nureyev strike me as strong ectomorphs, but not strong enough to manage anything like that.
