Of course they honor Archbishop Romero because they beleive he was killed by Rightists. But I believe the Left did him in. He had been on their side all the way until getting called on the carpet by Pope John Paul II. Then he actually said something critical about the guerrillas and soon he was dead.
The FMLN in El Salvador got lots of mileage out of his death and their myth building about “rightwing death squads”. I thank God for the Salvadoran Guardia Nacional and the rest of their Armed Forces that stopped communist momentum in Central America in 1981.
