Mitt Romney, my personal favorite front-runner for 2012 on our side just performed a rare *suuuuuhuuckification* on the Hugh Hewitt radio show this afternoon in Hewitt's second segment. (Holy God Hugh, if you ever bore me again as you did in that first segment teasing a Romney appearance, I swear it will be worth my time to drop everything and drive to the OC so I can personally explain to you my displeasure.)
No kidding, I think Mitt is the only one who even stands a chance against Zero. (Will save how he would have mopped the floor with Zero in 2008 for another discussion....)
But today he was off his game bigtime. My kind, slick Mormon friend acted like he had just drank a half gallon jug of Pepsi for the first time. Rather than the crisp, smooth off-teleprompter delivery I have come to envy and respect and marvel at, he was stuttery and jibbing all over the place. It was not the Mitt that could mop floor off-prompter, in other words. He was not tanned, rested, and ready. He conveyed he was over-eager and pressed for time.
So here is my Packaging/Marketing RX for any Mitt operative to relay to my favorite presidential current non-candidate:
1) Man-oh-man, immediately lose that Rumsfeldian rhetorical construct of "....there's no question BUT THAT...." Holy shades-of-Bush-Era Batman! Every moderate will leave the room and not turn out the lights. Keep that radioactive core buried in the past. Do not resuscitate! Mitt, you used it 3 times in 5 minutes, and any such turn of phrase thusly abused makes it stale fast. Remember "Don't touch my hair"? Same deal.
2) Step away from the caffeine and nobody will get hurt. Smooth, baby, smooth. You have the rhetorical chops. Too easy, just let it flow as you did last time. I remember an interview Mitt did in November 2008 after the election. It was so pretty. I remember pulling over to the side of the road and pounding my steering wheel and nearly crying "We nominated the wrong f-ing guy!!!!" because the content of those off the cuff remarks was that good.
People, we will not be getting Rick Santorum, neither John Bolton. But we need to get one thing for sure, and that is away from Zero. So being a realist, I am ready to step over to the last best chance for freedom: Romney/Pawlenty 2012. I am already getting the bumper stickers printed.
Those bumper stickers will end up in bumpersticker collections alongside the Dole/Kemp bumperstickers.
Caffeinated or not, Romney is very unlikely to be the nominee. If he is, there will probably be a third party.
*pretty sure* Christie will not run.
Sorry we disagree about Huck. But he isn’t jumping in either, looks like. I still blame Huck in large part for handing us McPain.....and a massive loss for the entire country.
Horse Hockey.
Allen West is good. Palin is good, Cain is excellent, and Bachmann is good.
Willard is a fraud. he’s only electable on Kolob.
I WILL NOT VOTE FOR HIM...and you’re a plant.
IBTZ
Elmer Gantry is a socialist fraud.
I will never vote for a minister who believes in distributionism over laissez-faire capitalism because his own misguided interpretation of the Good Book tells him so.
I agree. You are spot on.
Is this semi-satire news?
This is all very amusing, yes, but I am no Bot. I have thought about this, came to my own conclusions. No attachment to the campaign. I wish he would take a step up and do a full legitimate disavowal of Romneycare. If he fails that mission, and somebody else shows signs of life, I could be persuaded elsewise. But so far people are just calling me plants and naming people who have as much as vowed they aren’t running. Right now it is Mitt, Newt, and Tim.....and a few goofball losers with no cash, or Donald with borrowed cash, and no game. And they are going to go up against the biggest civil rights juggernaut ever invented, against a complicit media, the crumbling labor empires, and more. I am merely saying this is the best of a small bunch of bad choices.
Another RINO discovered here.
SAME!
you noticed that “there’s no question but that” too? reminded me of Rumsfeld instantly. Maybe he’d been listening to Hugh’s Rumsfeld interview.
I also noticed all the stammers and stutters and uhs and ahs. Now, in any transcript they’ll all be edited out. If it was Palin they’d all be included.
Romney/Pawlenty is not happening. If he gets the nod he’ll need someone with foreign policy/natl security experience, especially with Iraq/Afghanistan/Libya/Pakistan/etc... Neither of them have any and neither have any military experience. McCain could pick Palin because he had plenty so he didn’t need his VP to have any. Romney won’t have that luxury. He’ll need to go the Obama/Bush/Clinton/Reagan route and find a Biden/Cheney/Gore/Bush type.
The GOP doesn’t really have any obvious VP choices. None of the Presidential contenders have any foreign policy/natl security exp so they’ll need a Biden/Cheney type. But there are no Biden/Cheney types in the party who come to mind. Lugar is way too old. Kyl is retiring. No one from W’s administration will get anywhere near a ticket(although Rice would be an interesting possibility). Maybe some general like Petraeus or McChrystal. Guys like Rubio, Christie, Jindal, Ryan, etc... have no foreign policy/security/military exp and won’t be of any help.
You just can’t a ticket with no experience in that area.
(I dunno. The god competition is pretty stiff there)
I *really* like Mr. Cain as well, just not likely to get far. Good man though. Mr. West is outstanding at his rhetoric as well, and perhaps from the vantage of a Florida Senate or Governor seat one day, he will be our first conservative black President, but not as Congressman, unfortunately. OK, here’s an idea: who is drafting Marco? By 2012 he will have had as much experience as Zero did when he won....they can’t logically call him out for being too inexperienced, right?
I will leave the nice wimmin-folk you mentioned to defend their own plans.
That Mongrel living in the WH...will not even finish out this term....we’ll have VP Clinton to beat...
Look, I’ve he;d my nose and voted for Bush 41, Dole, and McCain.
NO MORE! I WILL NEVER AGAIN VOTE FOR A RINO.
If the GOP runs Willard, then we deserve to get the Kenyan usurper four more years, and if America falls, we’ve allowed it by not sending a Big Leaguer to the plate instead of the Double-A .226 hitter.
Romney is a joke. Glad you were banned.
What makes you so sure? Mitt couldn’t “crucify” McCain in 2008 when he was a 72 year old man despised by the base and had no money, and Mitt that had the backing of much of the GOP/conservative establishment and media types. He couldn’t even beat him in NH his virtual home state where no MA pol ever loses. He couldn’t beat Huckabee in IA despite camping out for a year and outspending him 10-1 or more. And he’s going to mop the floor with the machine that is Obama? I wouldn’t count my chickens just yet.
That said, if the economy is in bad shape and this Libya thing goes south it may not matter.
