A new study claims that President Obama has 28 living relatives who share his Irish ancestry, but some of the newly discovered kin aren't eager to share a pint with him.
In the study, released to The Associated Press by family history website Ancestry.com, genealogists traced the descendants of about two dozen passengers who came to America from Ireland on the ship Marmion in March 1850.

I’ve used the site too and have never been required to provide a birth certificate.
Its nice to find one when researching ancestors but there is no requirement.
This is what’s been bugging me:
“Dunham Surname Origin
Locality. A small village in England, so called from dun, a hill, and ham, a village.”
It does not sound “Irish”.
At best, her “Dunham” relatives were Anglo -Planters-.
Planters enslaved, killed, sold and simply “sent away” the *real* Irish to gain the land for themselves.
[look up Oliver Cromwell and his “history” with the Irish]
Sure, there may be Dunhams in Ireland but they weren’t born Irish.
Obviously the Irish part of Obama’s ancestry didn’t dominate. He’s a weak little pansy who wouldn’t last five minutes in Limerick.
Green beer. (forehead slap) That's the one that gets a big rise out of me. I'm a couple of generations removed from the island, but you will never see me drinking green bud lite.
“...Sure, weve had pain but we havent made a religion/business of it...We get back up and we fight.”
Damn straight, Salamander, and well said.
To all my Freeper Friends, Irish or not, and your families on this Saint Patrick’s day:
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
God bless all here.
“...just as long MO doesnt celebrate it ...”
There’s a pic someone out here posted a while back - French First Lady (Oohlala!), Italian First Lady (MamaMIA!!), and MO, walking up a set of stairs. View is from behind... Brrr....shudder....
Dunham is an English name from the Manchester area. The Irish side was Kearney.
I would LMAO, although I wouldn’t want to land something that offensive on the Jews.
as for myself, im a mutt, and have prolly everything but asian roots in my 'woodpile' but none of that matters, as i am an American citizen without hyphenation...
everything else is merely an opportunity to do an alinsky on earsbamma and his commslut mother...
lest i forget, FUBO and the wookie ya rode in on...
It’s good for a laugh, most of my friends are Irish and they all hate Obama, I’m going to send it to them. :D
“...i am an American citizen without hyphenation...”
Me too, brother. OOOrah. Well said.
I was BORN an American...
I LIVE as an American...
I shall DIE as an American...
And I intend to perform the duties incumbent upon me in that character to the end of my career. I mean to do this with absolute disregard to personal consequences...
Daniel Webster had it right.
They’ll probably hate you for it! LOL!
:D
As an American of Norwegian background I went to apply for a job, they asked me what I do, I said rape, pillage and plunder, didn’t get the job. /grin

Slainte NFHale,
My ancestors are from County Armagh.
Good health to you as well, Devil Dog, and thank you!
My wife’s family (father side) came here in 1847, though I’m not sure from what county. They were all Irish, through and through.
My ancestors got here in early 1860s (mom’s side, Irish) and 1902 (Dad’s side) from Ukraine/Austria.
Like Gilbo said - I’m an American mutt, and my blood is red, white and blue through and through.
About 700 BC they end up in Galicia where they subdue and enslave some of the folks living there ~ which would have been, about then, a Celtic and Basque mix of sorts.
They then sail on to the British isles and conquer the more primitive folks there, and at the same time imparting their Eastern Celtic language on the natives (who we now know are all identical to the folks who lived in the Western European refugia).
The Irish speak an Indo European language which had a home on the Danube. Whatever was spoken before that language got to Britain and Scota can only be guessed at.
NOTE: It was the Greeks who discovered the trade route up the rivers to the Baltic ~ and that's when a serious trade in Amber began. Before that it was just incidental.
You asked why the Greeks would go to all that trouble to get something so common ~ well, they did ~ the Greeks did a lot of things.
Back to who the Irish are ~ DNA studies say they are fundamentally the same as the Basques. The red/yellow and red/brown pigment goes with the DNA. You can actually find the different genes for melanin and compare it to known standards to see what "color" someone's hair had ought to be.
Those Watusis you referred to are as subject to sun bleaching as you but their melanin system is NOT impaired.
A good, introductory lesson in that regard is the name "Salinas". We all imagine it has something to do with "Saline" or "salt making". If you look at it in the Celtic language spoken in Galicia in the 800s or there about you see that it's about a "flag" ~ the word "sa" means flag or banner. And a "military line up" typical of what knights or heavy infantry would present before an engagement with the Moorish armies to the South. That is, a "linas" ~ Take together "sa" and "linas" (nominative singular) gives you the Name or Title of the Knight who took the Honor of holding the Banner upon which the mounted knights and heavy infantry took their cue for battle.
It's a noble title ~ not at all about salt, and having NOTHING to do with the Spanish language.
All these guys with "smith" in their name imagine that to be a hard core English or Germanic word. It's actually Latin or Ladino, from Spain, and reflects nothing more than "schmei de" or "smearer of" or "painter of" or "applicator of" or "cutter of". So, if you were a Schmiddllap your job would be "paper maker", or "someone who smeared sheets" (rather reflecting the most critical part of the job of making paper).
With so terribly many surnames around making up entire sentences or descriptions it really is silly to add on another hyphen.
The Irish varient for "Salinas" is "Sad'lier", which means LORD OF THE FLAG. It has nothing to do with making saddles!
