Some veteran Republican House members are pushing back against conservative deficit hawks who are pushing for endlessly deep spending cuts, saying the right wing of the party is creating unnecessary divisions for the GOP majority.
While the 54 Republicans who voted against the most recent stopgap spending bill didnt derail the legislation, some GOP lawmakers are becoming increasingly wary of a faction that rejects substantial spending cuts because they want deeper ones or the inclusion of divisive social policy riders.
Many of the critics are close to Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), who struggles more each day to keep his majority unified as a three-month spending showdown threatens to spill into April. The House passed $6 billion of spending cuts Tuesday, to bring the total cut to $10 billion.
Yep, it is surprising, Idaho Rep. Mike Simpson said of the difficulty convincing hard-liners that the leadership is cutting large amounts of spending.

I think its usually wiser to vote with the Republican leader than with Nancy Pelosi if youre a Republican, Cole told POLITICO. I think politically thats a harder vote to explain at home than voting with John Boehner. I dont see anything to be gained that way.
At the end of the day, politics is a team sport, Cole said. The only two things you can do as a member of the House on your own is hire and fire your staff and cast one vote. If you really want to get something done, you have to be part of a team that can muster 218 and work with the Senate and the president. Thats just the way the founders set up the system. ... And thats going to make it difficult for you to always get what you want.

Then get with the team. Your coach is calling for a new game plan. I guess some of these players need to be traded to the Democrat team.
Maybe we should treat them like the muslims would: convert to conservatism, pay tribute in the form of votes, or be vanquished to a third party!
I’ll read....
Sick of these rinos.
RINOs out!
And just WHERE do you think the RINOs came from? Hmmmmmmmm? Roosevelt was a PROGRESSIVE pubbie...IE: RINO....one of the FIRST ones as a matter of fact.
Hear,hear!
63 billion out of a 3,600 billion dollar budget, of which 1,600 billion is borrowed money.
Great O’l Pathetic party.
Well you bastards will be TIRED OF BEING UNEMPLOYED IN 2013! FU liberal republican evildoers! Your asses are gone come November 2012. WE HAVE HAD IT WITH EVERY LAST TRAITOROUS ONE OF YOU _________!
LLS
Substantial cuts would be removing 50% or more of the deficit. The cuts these RINOs are proposing aren't even a drop in the bucket. The government is broke.
“If not for the right wingers, theyd still be sitting in the corner under Nancy Pelosis rule.”
This is something John Boehner and company have already forgotten! I never had much faith in Boehner! I hope the people in his district remember this in 2012!
SUBSTANTIAL SPENDING CUTS!?! The day they approved $6 billion in cuts the deficit GREW by $72 billion!!!!
What a flipping joke!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great post and commentary.
Would love to meet this “ Some” fellow, because he sure does seem to get a lot of press time.
Endlessly? Really?
Within the last two weeks the GAO reported $100 billion in duplicative spending could be eliminated from the budget.
This piece says we're supposed to be pleased with a pitiful $10 billion in cuts when faced with a $1,600 billion deficient?
Even the $100 billion cuts "promised" in the Nov 2010 election cycle is only 6.25% of Obama's tsunami of red ink for 2011 alone.
That's nothing and yet these co-creators of the problem are more afraid of the lies the Democrat minority will spread against them than they are of bankrupting the nation.
You dumb-assed congress critters are our staff, and we can hire and fire you if you don't listen to us.
We hired you to get rid of obamacare and cut spending... do it.
Time to create the “Red Dog Republicans”.
Politico, like the rest of the MSM, is the Propaganda Arm of the DNC!
Do you think the quotes are inaccurate? Are they things that all conservatives should generally know?
