Some veteran Republican House members are pushing back against conservative deficit hawks who are pushing for endlessly deep spending cuts, saying the right wing of the party is creating unnecessary divisions for the GOP majority.
While the 54 Republicans who voted against the most recent stopgap spending bill didnt derail the legislation, some GOP lawmakers are becoming increasingly wary of a faction that rejects substantial spending cuts because they want deeper ones or the inclusion of divisive social policy riders.
Many of the critics are close to Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), who struggles more each day to keep his majority unified as a three-month spending showdown threatens to spill into April. The House passed $6 billion of spending cuts Tuesday, to bring the total cut to $10 billion.
Yep, it is surprising, Idaho Rep. Mike Simpson said of the difficulty convincing hard-liners that the leadership is cutting large amounts of spending.

I think its usually wiser to vote with the Republican leader than with Nancy Pelosi if youre a Republican, Cole told POLITICO. I think politically thats a harder vote to explain at home than voting with John Boehner. I dont see anything to be gained that way.
At the end of the day, politics is a team sport, Cole said. The only two things you can do as a member of the House on your own is hire and fire your staff and cast one vote. If you really want to get something done, you have to be part of a team that can muster 218 and work with the Senate and the president. Thats just the way the founders set up the system. ... And thats going to make it difficult for you to always get what you want.

The point I wanted to make though was that the statement, "If you really want to get something done, you have to be part of a team that can muster 218 and work with the Senate and the president. Thats just the way the founders set up the system." is completely incorrect. In fact, it could not be more incorrect.
Our founders set up a government where if there wasn't general agreement on an idea, it would not become law. In other words, if the House, Senate OR the President is against the EPA, there would be no EPA. Not half an EPA but no EPA.
All these votes are FOR MORE spending. They are not votes for cuts. The founder's baseline was that the government would do nothing unless everyone agreed.
Attn: GOP
you think you’re tired now???
You’re going to be exhausted after a TEA PARTY PRIMARY!!!
Some in the grassroots are getting fed up with the RINOesque GOP. We WILL purge you (Rinos), btw: Why are there never any articles: “Some in the DNC tire of the leftwing-marxists”?
What I've said about Republicans all along. They're only marginally better than democrats.
Time for the full-court press.
Right wing grows tired of GOP.
That is true.
But it is also true that unless you express your opinion forcefully and demonstrate your willingness to vote against the leadership when they violate your strongly held principles you will be considered a safe vote and your opinions will be ignored.
They have the rest of their lives to get over it.
“Yeah, I think most of us know that the GOP doesn’t represent conservatives. “
-
Likewise, most of us know that Politico is liberal, and routinely posts stuff like this in a futile attempt to set the narrative.
Ignore them. And then - reduce spending MORE.
Yep, it is surprising, Idaho Rep. Mike Simpson said of the difficulty convincing hard-liners that the leadership is cutting large amounts of spending.
On a day that was had a deficit of $72 billion having a cut of $6 billion is a joke. And I'm sure that 6 billion was spread out over some years so it's really next to nothing, and it'll be spent in other places anyways.
Why should we believe that anything is ACTUALLY being cut???
Sick of these Rinos. They are totally useless. Whatever happened to the GOP of Teddy Roosevelt that fought for people instead of big business, Wall Street & corporate America? The GOP’s nose is so far up their posterior end that it is poking outta their stomach! Give me the Tea Party any day! They are the ONLY people w/ half a brain at all in politics. What does the GOP NOT understand about our nation being bankrupt? Hello, Boehner? Anyone there??? This business as usual is killing the GOP & IF they don’t listen to the Tea Party & other conservatives, they better get used to being a permanent minority of blue blooded, bouncing to & from Wall Street & big business butt kisser old farts! I’m done w/ the GOP. They are worthless. Only the Tea Party gives me a ray of hope.
And who's team is Cole on? Apparently, not the American team. He sounds like a special interest. And if the establishment Republicans are wary and tired, they can retire from public office, go back to their home districts, and try opening a business. Then they can see what their team has done to America.
If not for the right wingers, they’d still be sitting in the corner under Nancy Pelosi’s rule.
An implicit admission that the GOP is left-wing.
Home run question of the day! Couldn’t agree more.
“endlessly deep spending cuts”
What a set up. Is the Politico arguing that conservatives are for zero government? Or that you can potentially “overcut”?
Don’t raise the debt ceiling and see what happens...nothing. Life will go on and America will thrive. The only negative effect will be that politicians cannot spend more.
Time for the Conservatives to push out the GOP!
Not it’s not true. Our government was not set up to “get things done”. It was set up to prevent the national government from getting things done. When something doesn’t “get done”, our founders smile.
Boehner is about as useful as tits on a suitcase.
I’d read what I want, thank you very much. It’s a Free Republic.
