My health food store trip...

Posted on 03/15/2011 12:42:13 PM PDT by djf

Just got back from the health food store.

I went to get some Xylitol. Xylitol is a natural sugar that helps with sinus infections, that sort of thing.

Phone was ringing off the hook. Gal behind the counter was automatically answering "Sorry, we're sold out"...

Anybody guess what people were wanting?

My concern is that the US Government who says "we have nothing to fear" pulled all of the potassium iodide from across the country!!! Not just the west coast but all the way to downstate Illinois!!!

Something is completely wrong here.

I found this:

“March 13, 2011 - 50,000 potassium iodide tablets have been donated by Nukepills.com to Tokushukai Hospital in Toyko, Japan for immediate distribution to those affected by the nuclear reactor accident. “

http://www.nukepills.com/index.htm

This could be part of the problem. We really need to hear from some pharmacists.

Here it is:

This is interesting, but about stickers, not the tabs.

“We were sending them the RADSticker, too, until this morning, when the Feds told our manufacturer they are ‘re-directing’ all current inventory there, and all future production until further notice, to emergency needs in Japan. We are, for the USA, the exclusive sole source for the RADSticker, but now we won’t be getting anymore till that’s lifted.”

This is from one of the survial supply online stores.
http://www.ki4u.com/products1.php

This is only for the RADsticker, not the tabs.
This could be the genesis of the rumor, but I will check other emergency supply sites that I know of.

Most of the residents of Oswego County won’t take the pills themselves.

They’ll get them from the county and sell them for drugs or booze.

This is from a blog, http://sherriequestioningall.blogspot.com/2011/03/us-government-seized-all-supplies-of.html

“The U.S. Government SEIZED ALL supplies of Potassium Iodide? that is why people can’t get it now? Also Govt. Considering a Policy on KI Pills.
Let me get this straight. The U.S. government is seizing all supplies of potassium iodide and that is why people are not able to get their orders from suppliers? So the government is not allowing the people of the U.S. decide for themselves if they feel they need KI (potassium iodide) pills?

I have been hearing every single MSM network tell people not to get KI pills over and over again today. Fox news went as far as ridiculing people for buying or wanting KI pills. The press is absolutely going against people getting the KI pills to protect themselves. It is quite a force out there.

After hearing this all day and hearing the network talking heads constantly blast it and saying there will be no radiation exposure in the U.S. from the Japan reactors, I almost started believing them.

Then I read this article. It hit me, yeah they are ridiculing the people because the government is seizing the supplies of them so people will not be able to get them anymore. The government is obviously protecting themselves first. You will also see where the govt. is now considering creating a “policy” for the KI pills.

This is so outrageous!”

There is more in her site that look more substantial.
I will make a second post for it.

If we have nothing to fear, why pull it all?

Something doesn't pass the smell test.

Always watch what they do, not listen to what they say.

Here is the second post from the blog:

“A number of stores across the west coast are reporting that they are completely sold out. And a pharmacist at a Walgreen’s in California told us that they would not be getting anymore because the government has seized all supplies.

Fleming Pharmaceuticals, maker of ThyroShield a potassium iodide used in nuclear emergencies, said in a press release today that before the Japanese Quake the federal government already has stockpiled millions of doses. The company claims that some of the federal stockpile has expired and the remaining supply is set to expire over the year.

White House chief spokesman Jay Carney continued to tell the press that the U.S. is not in danger, but wouldn’t comment on the governments stockpiling program.”

“UPDATE: 3-15-2011 11:24p.m pst
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released a statement about potassium iodide policy.
Dori Salcido, a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Health, said that they will be looking into “every aspect” of the Japanese disaster including “”Policy options relating to KI distribution.”

I would like to know what policy options they are thinking about.... making it where it is not available to the U.S. people over the counter?”

I thought some of her stories had links, they didn’t.

I found three links, with two linking to the same story in the first link below. The two remaining are:

http://www.infowars.com/u-s-government-blocking-americans-from-obtaining-potassium-iodide/

http://offgridsurvival.com/potassiumiodidesupplies/

Not sure about either source.

Having lived in Europe during Chernobyl, I’ve researched nuclear stuff quite a bit. Certainly no expert, but as bad as the Japan issue sounds, I don’t think we are in much danger.

They’ll get them from the county and sell them for drugs or booze.

Drove by my area's two supplement stores yesterday and noticed the parking lots were crammed in front of both. Usually there's 3-4 cars at most in the parking slots.

I’ve got iodine solution also from way back when. Supposed to paint in on the arms or something. No idea about iodine tabs tho.

I’m sure that everyone is out.

Why people wait until the last minute is beyond me.

My thoughts are to wait until the current crisis is over and when everyone has been lulled back into a false sense of security and stocks are replenished, to get some.

I don’t think we were at this time, either.

But the idea that the gov is out there grabbing this stuff is completely outrageous. I live sort of near one of the nuclear plants in SoCal. Never mind there might be a dirty bomb someday, God forbid.

Just trying to help out Quix with fleshing this out, see what is real.

Thanks for the links!

Most welcome.

Chernobyl was burning graphite and shedding radioactive “chunks” into the atmosphere, which of course, was the fallout that spread largely West and North from the plant. It was a large “dirty bomb”.

The Japanese reactor isn’t throwing those chunks (at least not that we’ve been told). If it’s just the gas/steam that’s “hot”, both half life and dispersal will make the threat negligible by the time it hits California.

http://www.infowars.com/u-s-government-blocking-americans-from-obtaining-potassium-iodide/
“Yesterday afternoon (roughly 1400PST), the Urgent Care in Ventura, California, denied me a prescription for KI (potassium iodide): an over the counter, salt,” writes Michael (surname withheld). “The reason for denying me a prescription was predicated upon the Doctors conversation, with both CDC and DHSC representatives, whom discouraged it. After asking her if she took government orders, she replied, “No, but I do take their recommendations.”

“The U.S. government has so far refused to stockpile supplies of the drug despite the threat of a nuclear disaster nearing the scale of Chernobyl.

“The federal government has never purchased enough to meet that standard,” reports CNN. “There is currently only enough of the medication available for populations living within 10 miles of nuclear reactors in the United States, according to U.S. officials.”

Turns out the second link “OffGridSurvival” looks to be the source for my post from posts 67 and 70, SherriQuestioningAll.

This so far this is from blogs, I haven’t a seen real news source yet.

Thanks for clarifying that.

I do live here in the Left Coast. Pays to keep up with the real news, not the hype from the MSM and the NYT. Blech.
