Anti-smoking campaigners are rallying against Johnny Depp's animated movie "Rango," branding the film a health hazard for depicting smoking on screen.

The movie, which features the voices of Depp, Isla Fisher and Bill Nighy, follows a group of chameleons searching for water that has been stolen from a town called Dirt.

Throughout the film "at least 60 instances of characters smoking" have been counted, according to Kori Titus, CEO of the nonprofit organization Breathe California.

RANGO.
Wasn't Rango the name of a TV western series staring Tim Conway?
It wasn't a classic, but it could have been. Now they have a cartoon named after it? Have these people no respect?

Nothing influences a Libtard like a cartoon depicting cigarettes .... that’s why Bugs Bunny, Roadrunner and the others were censored before they were taken off the air.

Too many Libtards couldn’t discern the difference between cartoons and reality. Libtards have a very difficult telling what is fantasy and pretend - from reality.

If Luke Skywalker and Beetle Bailey were to run on the Democratic ticket - I bet they would win the Democratic nomination. The fact that Luke isn’t an American citizen is of no consequence.

They wouldn’t care if the lizard was puffing a joint, though.

crap articles like this would be hilarious if they weren’t written in the first place. but because the pc crowd is overwhelmingly telling us what to do with our lives and try to prevent us from saying words like “gay” and “retarded” in a derogatory sense that i wouldn’t imagine they come to conclusions that eventually “smoking” would be a bad word. oh crap i hear a protest outside my place because i wrote this, time to bring out the water hose.

Don’t you love it when they quote a fictional character from Star Trek, Lord of the Rings etc. as a source of
wisdom?

This site link is big into smoking in movies.
This is where the rest of the anti-smoker agencies get their movie info.
Check out their review of ‘Rango’
http://www.scenesmoking.org/enter.cfm

There’s apparently one character that smokes a cigarette - 4 smoke Cigars, one chews and one smokes a pipe.

So I guess these guys are worried that the childrun will pick up Macanudos just from watching this flick...

These idiot health police should just get a life. I saw RANGO, and it was both a hoot and well done. And how come they’re not complaining about the hero [RANGO] eating bugs?

Some of the things that do NOT influence people to imitate such behavior when shown on screen.

Fornication.

Adultery.

Homosexuality.

Assault.

Murder.

Having babies out of wedlock.

But watch somebody smoking and people make a beeline for the 7/11 to buy some coffin nails.

Actually, a statement does not become more or less wise or foolish because of its provenance.

Fictional characters do not of course say anything, but their authors' do. While I'm not particularly a fan of Lucas, I think Tolkien had a great deal of wisdom to impart.

Many, many Shakespearean sayings have made their way into the common stock of the English language. Almost all are made through the mouths of fictional characters. Are they therefore improper to quote?

They must not have been around when Depp was in the 9th Gate. He was smoking in every scene.

There’s quite a few passages in Lord of the Rings that a liberal would never dare to quote. (For any lurkers who have not read the book and who have only seen the movie, the following takes place as the Hobbits return to the Shire, only to find that their once fair and free home has changed for the worse). Such as:

“All right, all right!” said Sam. “That’s quite enough. I don’t want to hear no more. No welcome, no beer, no smoke, and a lot of rules and orc-talk instead.”

As evening fell they were drawing near to Frogmorton, a village right on the Road, about twenty-two miles from the Bridge. There they meant to stay the night; The Floating Log at Frogmorton was a good inn. But as they came to the east end of the village they met a barrier with a large board saying NO ROAD; and behind it stood a large band of Shirriffs with staves in their hands and feathers in their caps, looking both important and rather scared.

“What’s all this?” said Frodo, feeling inclined to laugh.

“This is what it is, Mr. Baggins,” said the leader of the Shirriffs, a two-feather hobbit: “You’re arrested for Gate-breaking, and Tearing up of Rules, and Assaulting Gate-keepers, and Trespassing, and Sleeping in Shire-buildings without Leave, and Bribing Guards with Food.”

“And what else?” said Frodo.

“That’ll do to go on with,” said the Shirriff-leader.
“I can add some more, if you’d like it,” said Sam. “Calling your Chief Names, Wishing to punch his Pimply Face, and Thinking you Shirriffs look a lot of Tom-fools”.

“We’re not allowed to,” said Robin.

“If I hear not allowed much oftener,” said Sam, “I’m going to get angry.”

“Can’t say as I’d be sorry to see it,” said Robin lowering his voice. “If we all got angry together something might be done.”
