My father passed away recently, age 85 ... WWII veteran US Navy 1944-46 LCS ship which engaged in the Pacific at Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Leyte Gulf, and the occupation of Japan afterwards.
Dad was always a true American hero in my eyes, maybe a bit flaky sometimes, but he belived in the free spirt of America and just did his small part to help secure and maintain our freedoms as a people.
He never ever thought that he was any bigger than that.
God Bless ppl like my Dad, and God Bless America

Thanks for sharing that beautiful tribute. God bless your Dad, you and yours. :)
God bless your Dad. I thank him and all our veterans for my freedom.
Thanks for sharing this. I hope and pray we can all live up to the example and legacy men like your father have left to us.
Prayers Up!
O God, by whose mercy the faithful departed find rest, look kindly on your departed veterans who gave their lives in the service of their country. Grant that through the passion, death, and resurrection of your Son they may share in the joy of your heavenly kingdom and rejoice in you with your saints forever. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
God be with you, your Dad and family, and sorry for your loss.
Your dad sounds like mine. They never made a big deal of their service-mine was also a WWII vet. They just consistently did the right thing. God bless our heroes.
Dad was buried at Calverton National with full military honors ... playing of Taps, US flag draped coffin, folding of the flag, and we brought in a Bagpiper to play "Amazing Grace" ...
Once again .. God Bless my Dad and God Bless America .. don't know what else to say

Very nice tribute to your pop.
Prayers for your family.
MM,
God bless your dad and you and your family!
You can be proud of having a dad who cared about our country and wanted always to do his duty in preserving our freedom! That’s not often the case these days.
Obviously, he did a lot of things right.
( judging by the son he raised)
Thanks for sharing,

RIP Sailor.
god bless your dad
He was with my Grandpa at Leyte Gulf. My grandpa served on the Carrier USS Hancock. Through all the big attacks she took. And saved other ships from too.
Agreed.Your Dad,my parents and many,*many* like them are owed *so* much by this country....but fewer and fewer of us believe that.Your Dad,clearly,is a member of The Greatest Generation.
I miss my two uncles and one grand uncle who served in WW II. Your tribute was very nice. God Bless him. I send my condolences on the loss of your Dad.
Likewise at Leyte, my Dad's little LCS nailed a couple of Kami-Kazi's headed in before they could do any damage to the US fleet ... the LCS's being termed "The Mighty Midgets" or the "Small Ships which cast Big Shadows" or something to that effect ... their main task at Leyte was to spot and destroy incoming Kami-Kazi's
