(Photo: Andy Liu) After three nights and nine contestants vying for the title, Tatiyanna Voche, Miss Gay Maryland 2008, crowned Baltimores own Sue Nami Miss Gay Maryland 2009 on Monday, April 20. Both Sue Nami and first alternate Chi Chi Ray Colby will advance to compete in Miss Gay America.
Sue Nami sat down with Dimitria to talk about how it feels to win and what she most looks forward to in her title year.
Welcome Sue Nami! How does it feel to be Miss Gay Maryland?
It feels great! After 3 years of competing for Miss Gay Maryland America, I believe that I have been growing in my professionalism, personality and entertaining. Its so overwhelming and exciting, as I look forward to serving the system and the community.
Im so proud of you! Competing with you was such a pleasure. You were so helpful and friendly, not only to me, but to all the other contestants. What do you have to say about the competition?
Every single contestant brought a great package. They all worked so hard, and I want them to remember, as they prepare for next year, that anyone can win. Consistency is the key to success.
So true! What do you think the hardest part of being Miss Maryland will be?
I would say there isnt a hardest part. Its really all about following the rules and regulations of the system, and serving the community as best I can. I need all the help, support, and love from the community that I can get as I move forward.
Support and love are so important. Now that youve won Miss Gay Maryland, youre off to compete for Miss Gay America. What do you have planned for that?
Im taking all the judges critiques and making all the improvements I can to put together my package.
Do you have any big plans for your reign as Miss Gay Maryland?
Id really like to introduce the America System to the newer members of the community, and encourage newer female impersonators to compete. Also, I would love to help raise money for local charities like the GLCCB.
Finally, what advice do you have for other girls who are preparing for the next round of pageants?
Never stop learning, and never give up. Always follow your dreams, and listen to the right people. Let them guide you in the right direction.
How many people attend this event? 70?
Yes.
Yes.
I found my way there after doing a search for Sue Nami. I knew there had to be one. There is also actually a real Sushi Nami = Sue Nami.
Poor guys.
"Honest mom, I don't know how that magazine got under my mattress......"
Those gentlemen are...confused.
Every contestant brought a great package...*snicker*.
Cat fight!
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil? The drag queen, The Lady Chablis
Better luck next time ping!
Buncha "Bob" cats.
Well, you can always wave goodbye and be done with it. :=)
They’re severely emotionally damaged by childhood trauma that no one should have to endure.
And you’re right; they’re confused.
Fake hair flying, fake nails breaking, eyes being scratched out with these nails, smudged make-up,etc.
As a REAL woman,I want to know how these drag queens remove all that make-up.Must take forever.
That’s a good question but I don’t have an answer. I’m holding out for the divorce rate! Can’t you see the alimony squabbles, esp over the poodle?
Some things are not meant to be seen with human eyes. Remember, what has been seen can not be unseen.
The Lady Chablis, the drag queen, stole the whole movie.
