Please, I need some advice regarding Potassium Iodide tablets for Radiation(serious vanity)

Posted on 03/11/2011 4:41:11 PM PST by Scythian

I have potassium iodide tablets, I thought they were expired but they're good through 4/11 so I'm good. Drudge has a nuclear plants ready to blow in Japan and another ready to blow (who knows?). I have three kids. How are we going to know to use these tablets if we have to? I hope the stupid people in charge don't keep us in the dark until it's too late.

What are we to do?

I live in the US state where the Federal government detonated 1,105 H-bombs over 40 years time in nuclear tests -- not leaks of reactor coolant steam with slightly elevated levels of radiation mind you, but actual *H-bomb detonations* -- and as of yet no spiky glowing green tentacles have yet grown out of my chest.

You live on Enitiwok Atoll? Never lit any H-bombs I know of in NV, just A-bombs, but I could be wrong....

Come on everybody. This lady had some concerns. It is not like Al Gore is posting in which I would say “hell yeah - blast him.” She has kids and a concern. Let’s be a little more considerate.

Unless she is in Japan or nearby she should be fine.

Prayers for the folks in Japan.

35 wasn’t sarcastic, it is a serious concern and someone uninformed who does something reactionary can cause serious harm. In children especially, iodine allergies can lead to anaphylactic shock and death. Usually, this allergy isn’t identified in children because it is usually manifest as a shellfish type allergy and not too many children eat oysters and such for this to be apparent.

“When Potassium Iodide is taken as directed, it literally “floods” the thyroid with a stabilized iodine, basically saturating the thyroid gland so that the radioactive Iodine 131 particles cannot find a home and is expelled out the normal body waste channels. Potassium Iodide tablets can prevent up to 99% of the damage caused by radioactive nuclear fallout (dust). “

This is basically LeChatelier’s Principle. That’s why this works.

Wrap your body in 4” of aluminum foil. You’ll be fine.

Damn, Alaska and Russia are going to get it. Palin and Putin. We’re in trouble!

BTW - those pills. The whole point is to keep your thyroid filled with iodine. You can paint your arms with betadyne and get a similar effect. Paint your feet and you’ll get rid of athletes feet too. You’re going to look funny though.

Ah, Robert, a voice of reason.

I would say the same thing. This just protects the thyroids of young ones against future cancer risk in the event of catastrophic radiation. It’s not a cure all protect all for radiation. And from what I understand, they taste absolutely disgusting. Many people can’t even get them down.

If you are over 40, your risk of dying from Iodine allergy is higher than cancer from the thyroid.

Just looked up Iodine 131.

The half-life is 8 days. So it decays pretty rapidly.

BTW I have some pills too.

You need to be on iodine/iodide which is sold as Iodoral or the liquid version of Lugol’s.

The people of Japan are already going to be pretty protected because they get an avg of 14mg/day of iodine from their diet of fish and seaweed.

We in the US are deficient and need to supplement with this. And, consequently, it will protect you from radiation poisoning.

there is no such thing as iodine allergy. Any reaction from iodine is a detox symptom from purging of bromine from our system. Iodine pushes it out.

No such thing as hereditary goiter. Goiter is the expanding of the thyroid tissue searching for iodine. That’s why it reduces down when you take iodine.

The same applies for breast and uterine fibroid as well as enlarged prostate. Take iodine and they go away.

what mg. do you have? keep in mind, too, that iodoral protects against fibroids and prostate issues, as well as viruses, bacteria and fungus.

First:
Relax.

Now I mentioned KI at the beginning of a different thread, and was routinely pounded for it.
If people want to keep their heads in the sand (or up their butts) I really don’t care.

It seemed strange to me that people who call themselves “conservative” would be so quick to adopt a la-la attitude, you know, Kumbaya, and all that liberal type stuff.

Remember the Boy Scout motto: BE PREPARED!!

So I commend you for your foresight. I don’t have any KI, but I have enough iodine in various forms to treat 1000 people easy if need be.

Listen to the news reports.

I expect that within 72-96 hours, we will start to hear about radiation detectors in America picking up some elevated radiation.

Anybody who thinks thats a crappy prediction doesn’t have a single clue how many of these sorts of things we have out there to detect and analyze nuclear blasts/testing. We got the stuff. Trust me.

IF - and I said IF you hear about elevated radiation, then take appropriate action. In this case, it might be best to rely on reports coming from higher ed facilities and research facilities. Im not sure how much the military would be willing to reveal.

Bottom line, minimum you have 60 hours or so before it could even get here.

Drink a beer. I am. Murphys Stout!
