Largo, Florida -- Depending on who you talk to, those little caterpillars hanging on the edge of the long, silky threads are either pretty cool or disgusting.
"I think it's kind of gross," said 6-year-old Mace Morris as he played with his brothers at Largo's Eagle Lake Park.

The green and yellowish caterpillars are hanging from just about everything...off the playground equipment, off the trees and even off of cars and people if you happen to get in the way.
"I feel like they're climbing on me. They're hanging on trees, they're hanging off of the children's equipment and it's just ooey gooey," said June Chittenden.
Jane Morse, with the Pinellas County Extension says the caterpillars are the larvae of either oak leafrollers or oakleaftier moths.

“green and yellowish caterpillars”
Those would be John Deeres, not caterpillars.

That’s probably the only piece of equipment that won’t blow away in a sand storm. HEY! Speaking of sand storms...what did they do with Allegra? Where’s Allegra?

My oak trees produced not one acorn this last Fall. First time I’ve seen that in the 14 yrs. we’ve lived here.(Raleigh)
Led me to forgive the squirrels from raiding the bird feeders over the winter.

I’ll bet both of those will set you free.
There’s a similar one in S. Fla, usually on Hibiscus that is green, maroon stripe down the sides and hairy.
Brush against that boy and you think you’ve got a red-hot poker on you.

That is odd. I’ve grown up with Pecan trees and know that it goes thru 2 year cycles of good crop/bad crop. I’ve never seen them not produce at all though.
