Oprah, the ultimate American success story...started off poor, black, fatherless, ugly, female in a time when any one of those things could have been enough to stop anyone...ended up a jazillionaire with global one-name recognition and king-maker power.
Did Orcah win for “The Color Purple”, or was she just nominated? Have to admit it, she DID a terrific job in that movie.

IMHO this was actually a decent movie year, but you would never know it from this years award show which has to be one of the worst produced shows in recent memory.

It’s what I always thinnk when I hear her...”man, I sing better than that..” but I stop and mentally go...NAH, surely someone who doesn’t sing as well as me wouldn’t be all of a sudden pretending to be a singing star or anything, right?

As an aside, I know she’s cute, but that little girl Taylor Swift can’t sing either. Though I do think she sings better than me.
Well, considering I”m listening to Billy Cunningham also and I wish Drudge hadn’t quit, compared to Billy Cunningham, G. Paltrow was okay. I said earlier on this thread that Mandy Moore sang well. I miss Matt Drudge. Paltrow in one ear and Cunningham the other. Not good situation.
I Love L.A. was and is a great song. Cruising down PCH in my convertible on a beautiful day with that song blasting is cosmic. It’s almost as good as playing Good Vibrations. Almost...
Just about every Randy Newman song after that do nothing for me. They all sound the same.
A lot of [smart] songwriters write for the studios. They don’t put out albums. They write music for movies, TV and background.
No surprise that movies are a huge industry here in LA.
127 Hours seems interesting..must be very painful to watch though.

Yes, Oprah is something else. I wish Michelle Obama would go to her for fashion advice. Whether she’s fat or thin, Oprah dresses well to hide her size. I’m not an Oprah fan, but she’s good at what she does. I think her welcome is wearing a little thin though.
