Once Upon A Time In The West is a rare film. The movie is over 40 years old, was snubbed by critics (including Roger Ebert) and shunned by audiences on its release, but Sergio Leone's follow-up (but not sequel to) The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is now a staple of even commonplace stores in the Louisville area, like Wal-mart or Target. On IMDB.com's list of the 250 highest user-rated films, it places #20. And that's not just with the general public. Film critics now often cite this as one of the best motion pictures of all time. What could account for such a remarkable turn-around?

Repoman is one of the most surprising movies ever made.
“I shall not cause harm to any vehicle nor the personal contents thereof, nor through inaction let the personal contents thereof come to harm’” :-)
One of the best films ever made on a B budget.
And, at nearly 86, Ferzetti is still acting.
Dang SoGrits, I ain’t seen that one in a while. I’d watch it again if it was on PPV.
“The life of a Repo man is always intense.”
Right up there with “This is Spinal Tap” and THESE GO TO ELEVEN.
One louder.
Incredible. Dude’s done alright.
Funny behind the scenes about the movie was that Henry Fonda was tired of doing nice guy roles, and so really put his back into being an evil villain, enjoying himself immensely.
And, as a rule of thumb, the villain, not the hero, make the drama.
This is where some of the best screen villains come from. Lionel Barrymore had just come off several roles playing a sickly sweet grandfatherly type doctor, so truly enjoyed playing mean Mr. Potter, the banker, in It’s A Wonderful Life, in full snarl.
This was one of Henry Fonda’s favorite roles [as Frank]. I believe it was the only time he ever played a villain ...
BTW: If you liked OUATITW, Once Upon A Time In America [w/ Robert Deniro, Elizabeth McGovern, and James Woods] is another oft-overlooked Sergio Leone gem ...
I got it out of the library once, the disk wouldn’t play right, so I haven’t got to see it. Ishould check for a cheap used copy or at the warehouse clubs.
I’m sure that Ebert has changed his mind about this film.
Probably the only time that Henry Fonda ever played a truly evil scoundrel ...................................... FRegards
I love the music by Ennio Morricone!
thanks for ping. Never saw it. I dont take Roger Ebert’s reporting for squat. I use the rankings at IMDb. Not Rotten Tomatoes.
+1 for OUATIA. The film is the story of Jewish organized crime in America, as told by an Italian. It also features the debut of Jennifer Connelly.
John Wayne was a fag.
My wife and I saw that recently and really enjoyed it. Although we completely disagreed about the ending, which is fun. LOL
“Once Upon a Time in the West”
In 1984, the film was completely restored to its original 165 minute run-time. Since then, it has steadily been gaining acclaim, and is now considered an all-time classic.

I like RT for trailers, but if I'm seriously evaluating a movie, I trust and prefer IMDb. It's also a good resource for cast and plot info.
