I post this not as a commentary on Sheen but on alcohol and what it means to live life without it. Before I stopped drinking, I was a moderate drinker (2 to 3 drinks a day), but I was astonished at the changes in my lifestyle, health, and productivity when I gave it up.

That said, I understand what Charlie is saying. Drinking definitely enables the drinker to produce an emotional high on command and living in abstinence is much "steadier."

Charlie Sheen needs to stay away from the sh*t for at least 6 months. If he can do that, he could at least say that for a period of time, he was not chemically dependent. If he goes back to it after just a couple of weeks, he’s probably an addict.

Another overpaid celebrity with too much time on his hands and utterly lacking in maturity. The guy has a hugely successful tv show which he is chronically in danger of losing. How stupid can he be? It’s not just the booze — it’s the broads and the idiotic behavior in general. He has some problems, but he’s not serious about getting help. He’s either going to hit rock bottom before he straightens out, or he is going to die at a young age. I would feel for the guy, but personally, I think it’s a waste to be sympathetic until he makes some sincere effort to get his chit together.

"It's inauthentic -- it's not who I am. I didn't drink for 12 years and, man, that first one [drink], Dan. Wow."

That was a common refrain among the stoners and "heads" of my generation. You're under the influence 24/7, so chemically dependent, it becomes your reality. Flip it, and "wow, man!" "Been down so long, don't know which way is up, man!" Charlie, you've had your 2-minute warning. You've lost your wife, job, and now your fortune to Hollywood hookers. Next stop is the county morgue, slathered in your own vomit. There's authenticity for ya'.

The classic mantra of the alcoholic

” I - Me - Mine!!”

Only a very small percentage of people that truly want to get sober are successful. Sad but true. Sheen apparently doesn't even want to get sober.

Thy will not mine be done.

I wish him the best of luck but I'm certainly not expecting much. Perhaps he should talk to my friend Bobby D.

He is a spoiled Hollywood brat.

Alays priviledged and looked out for . In the past he has done many things that they would have tossed any average Joe in jail for, but his money always buys him out.

Bored? Certainly he is bored when sober, because he is a scumbag addict.

Words to die by: Sobriety 'bores' Sheen

Cemeteries & prisons are filled with people who thought that very same way.

“Sobriety ‘bores’ Sheen”

Sobriety bore me too, Charlie but in the real world, most of us have to go to work, stay sober just to make a paycheck.

We don’t have the luxury of getting drunk, doing lines off a hookers belly and then not showing up for work while entering rehab.

We would lose our jobs.

Sobriety, my a$$. When a drunk, alcoholic A-hole stops drinking, what do you think he becomes? An alcoholic A-hole of course. There is definitely a certain type of insanity associated with alcoholic thinking. For instance - “social crack smoking”! WTH is social crack smoking?

Charlie’s problem is that he’s still alive.

Watching Charlie is like watching a fast trainwreck, not a slow one. The boy is in deep trouble and nothing will get him out of it except prayer and the acknowledgment of the higher power that gives him the privilege of taking that next breath.

this is what is known as a "reservation" Charlie.

Charlie hasn't hit bottom yet. With money, a sufficiently robust physique, and an environment full of enablers, that could be awhile. Yes, he could die first.

Did a little counseling in this arena some years ago. The hardest part of it is watching someone thinking they can deal with it all in an death spiral, and you can't stop it. The spouse can't either, and neither can the kids. Anger at the addict doesn't help either. After awhile you get kind of callous. I don't counsel anymore.

He's a pathetic little man who can't stand himself when he is sober enough to be aware of reality. He isn't loveable so he has to buy women, even wives. No one cares enough about him to actually step in and make him seek help.

What I want to know is why he hasn't been charged with drug possession?
