The news came like a blow to the gut for this child of 1950s suburbia:
Volvo, the company most associated with station wagons for the last 20 years, will stop selling wagons in the U.S. The market is drying up.
The Volvo wagon had been on life support for months. After dropping the larger V70 Volvo in 2010, Doug Speck, CEO of Volvo Cars of North America, told Automotive News he was giving the V50 another year because there "is a bit more energy in the small wagon segment."
Not enough, apparently. Volvo, which was sold to China's Geely in 2010, sold just 480 V50s last year, about two per dealer.

We have one of these Caddys, none dare call it a station wagon but that's what it is LOL. The grandkids love to ride in the 3rd seat.

My parents had one just like this when I was a kid. We crawled around loose in the back with all our friends while they were driving. It was a blast.

You're right. This is a station wagon.

The Chevy Nomad was first introduced as a concept car at Motorama in 1953 but was not available for public consumption until 1955. The car in the photo is much different than the production model in that it is actually a Corvette body that has been modified into a station wagon.

The rockin could be ignored by most folks but I was always worried when the gals were screamin n hollerin. Some passers by knocking on the side can, ummmmmm, take the wood away.

I had an SUV once, which was enough for me to know I never want one again as a daily driver. And vans are just too dorky. I’m getting my fiancee a wagon after we get married.
