ScienceDaily (Jan. 31, 2011) — Scientists studying genetic evidence have discovered a new species of wolf living in Africa.

The researchers have proved that the mysterious animal, known as the 'Egyptian jackal' and often confused with the golden jackal, is not a sub-species of jackal but a grey wolf.

The discovery, by a team from Oxford University's Wildlife Conservation Research Unit (WildCRU), the University of Oslo, and Addis Ababa University, shows that grey wolves reached Africa around 3 million years ago before spreading throughout the northern hemisphere. The new wolf is a relative of the Holarctic grey wolf, the Indian wolf and the Himalayan wolf.

just because man didn’t notice it, doesn’t make it a “new” wolf...

i hate lousy reporting.

it’s like a new rodent they find in the rain forest, and is immediately put on the endangered list... they just noticed it... how do they know it’s endangered...

ugh.

the end can’t come quick enough.

This is a vile blaspheme against the teachings of the great and wise Profit Algore.

Everyone knows anthropogenic global climate change causes hundreds of species to become extinct each year. The discovery of new species cannot and WILL not be tolerated!

Sorry: It is a vile blasphemy.

Blaspheme is a verb.

I should proof-read before posting...

I think stories like this open the door for pointing out the problems of the concept of an “endangered species”.

We need reminders that the claim that animals are endangered or extinct (For instance, the discovery of the coelacanth) are based on ideological, not scientific, reasons.

We've been studying these animals, both alive and and as mummified remains for centuries, and just now we've determined they are a separate species?
