Palin: Mubarak Relationship “Not Moral or Ethical”
Time ^ | 2/11/11 | staff

On whether the United States should have been giving foreign aid to President Mubarak: “Over 30 years of standing by Mubarak’s side and he essentially standing with America on a lot of our interests it makes sense that we have a reciprocal relationship but no it is not moral or ethical. We are watching Mubarak and realizing the billions of dollars that have been spent, he’s become rich, a lot of the dictatorship has personally benefited. So where do those funds end up? We need to pull back on those countries where the money isn't doing any good."

The question isn’t “to” vs. “and”, it’s “isn’t his” vs. “in this”.

If you make the latter replacement (they do sound similar, after all), I believe the sentence makes much more sense.

Looks like she’s saying we picked the lesser of two evils.

It is sometimes moral to pick the lesser of two evils. She would need to be clearer on that point.

So, you're alleging that Sarah Palin is making Abbot & Costello comedy callback references in the middle of the most singularly destabilizing Middle East event since the Iranian Islamic Revolution. And you think that is better?

She's using an easily-understood colloquialism that refers to the confused state of affairs. I think it gets the point across nicely.

But maybe I'm just some dumb hick who doesn't understand the finer points of speaking to please the self-appointed intelligentsia.

Time magazine took two separate questions from Judge Napoltano and combined them to her answer. One was about Murbarak and the other question was about foreign aid which she was right on......it doesn’t matter to you guys anyway though

We need a trascript.

The video is provided in #102.

I’d love to see a written transcript myself, as my computing environment is audio-impaired.

"It’s right for Americans to try to figure out who’s on first isn’t his situation."

She actually said, "It's right for Americans to try to figure out who's on first IN THE situation."

So what? Baseball, comedy and even (horrors!) military metaphors are used all the time, especially on interview shows which are not known for Oxford-perfect English.

Regardless of where the baseball expression reference came from (you have a problem with Abbott and Costello..baseball...or what?), it is commonly used and understood among the vast majority of Americans and I am surprised someone would take issue with such a commonly accepted expression and nitpick over such an extremely small thing.

Sheesh.

I generally agree with her. In the 30 years Muby has been in power, Egypt has gone from being at least a nominally secular state to a full-blown Islamic powder keg. Regardless of our intentions, the military hardware and billions of dollars we've given Egypt over the years is about to be turned over to the Muslim Brotherhood.

The Middle East is an ugly place, and particularly so when you deal with them from a position of weakness. We should never give tribute to pissant states like Egypt. (No offense). Alliances paid for with money will always come back to bite you in the rear at some point.

This is OldDeckHand we are talking about!

If Sarah Palin said that she likes Apple pie, OldDeckHand will interepet that to be her liking the raunchy teen movie “American Pie” where the apple pie was used for sexual references!

who's on first....I have no clue what she's talking about

You can't tell the players without a program.

Here's her last sentence in that answer: "It is important that we root for people who are truly seeking democracy and freedoms.

She's saying it's good for Americans to know who the players are. Americans need to know who are the good guys and who are the bad guys.

Pretty straight baseball talk IMHO.

Time boteched that quote. She said “who’s on first”. A little odd, but certainly makes more sense.

But you can tell her $400K for political consultants ain’t paying off. The “recent comment that he made” referring to Erdogan, was from 1995, long before he was a Turkish PM.

Hey, I get you're not a very bright guy. That's fine. But, it's common form on this board that if you're going to name someone in a post, you ping them as well. You didn't, and you frequently don't.

I have told you this before. I'm sure I'll have to tell you again. You just don't seem like a guy who's quick on the uptake.

Here is the part talking about SPECIFICALLY ABOUT MUBARACK.

Judge: Stated differently, should we have given this tyrant $60 billion in the 30 years he’s been in office?

Palin: Well, over 30 years of standing by Mubarak’s side, adn he essentially standing with America on alot of our issues and interests, in terms of protecting allies and in protectingsome of America’s interests, it makes sense that we have a reciprocal relationship. But no, it is not moral or ethical. It’s unjust to be bribing, assuming that just by paying out our US dollars into foreign countries that they are going to stand in line with our interests. And we see that playing out right now. As we are watching Mubarak we are realizing that the billions of dollars that have been spent in giving to him and his country, he’s become rich. A lot of the dictatorship there has personally benefited. And we wonder, where do those funds actually end up?

*****************

not moral, not ethical, and unjust???

I kind of suspected that there was a reference to Abbott and Costello in there somewhere.

Did you read her statement? Here it is:

“Over 30 years of standing by Mubarak’s side and he essentially standing with America on a lot of our interests it makes sense that we have a reciprocal relationship”

SHe’s saying that it makes sense that we have ties with Mubie.

“but no it is not moral or ethical. We are watching Mubarak and realizing the billions of dollars that have been spent, he’s become rich, a lot of the dictatorship has personally benefited. So where do those funds end up? We need to pull back on those countries where the money isn’t doing any good.”

She’s saying that we should take a look and be more discering when it comes to foreign aid.

There you go again, demeaning other posters because they don't agree with you. Once again, your own observations proved wrong, yet you continue to try to demean someone else instead of fessing up to being incorrect.

I believe you're the one who said the Alaska series Palin did was going to be just like the Osbournes, and that she and her family were going around stealing things in Hollywood when they were there.

It is delightful to watch your condescension to anyone who disagrees with you by telling them how dumb they are. Of course that shows how smart you must be after the stupid statements you made this past year.

Brilliant Charles, just brilliant.

Did I read her statement? I just transcribed it accurately REGARDING MUBARIK two posts above yours. She threw the old fossil under the bus, big time.

Why do you continually mistake me for someone who give's a rat's ass what you think.

To be crystal clear. I think you're a moron. If something I say displeases you, I couldn't be happier. In fact, I take it as complete validation.

Now, go back to cage and continue to play with your own excrement. You're much more entertaining that way.
