The Mansfield school district has backed off plans to implement an Arabic studies program after almost 200 people showed up with questions at a parents meeting at Cross Timbers Intermediate School on Monday night.
Superintendent Bob Morrison apologized for not communicating with parents and invited them to be part of developing the curriculum.

Obviously there is a more sinister reason, but let’s assume that somebody truly wants students to have the opportunity to learn another language - I learned French in 7th grade and took 3 years of German in High School and think both were helpful.
How much use/practice would you ever get with arabic? It would be worthless in North Texas and in 75% of the world. You might as well learn Finnish - Nokia has offices here in DFW so a handful of the 5 million Finnish speakers live here.
There are 5 or 6 languages that would be more useful and relevant in North Texas and throughout the world. Heck, even Latin would be more beneficial long term.
Did Saudi Arabia supply funds for this FLAP?
“real Texans should go down there and say h*ll no”

I’m sure the folks at the school board meeting who opposed this idiocy were “real Texans”. Unfortunately, Texas has
become infected with PC zombies from “other places”.
When you learned French did they have you not shower regularly, sleep with a relative and drink wine in class?
This wasn’t just language it was cultural immersion.
Teaching them languages and letting them decide which one, without all of the indoctrination would be fine. Chinese and Hindi are becoming more and more important.
“
Its already been developed by CAIR no doubt.
“
Maybe.
But school unions do anything they can to create useless faculty positions.
In California, the big push was to higher a ton of Spanish-to-English
teachers...until an initiative forbidding it passed.
Amazingly, it was found that kids that were immersed in English managed
to become fluent in English in six months or so.
(Despite the predictions of disaster from the educational “experts”.)
What possessed these fools to even think they could do this?
Excellent point in that while Arabic should hardly be REQUIRED language study for US public schools, maybe that fed money should go toward the armed forces developing their own lingual programs. My BIL (retired Navy Lt-Commander) works for CentCom as a civilian now doing job placement all over the Mideast Theater of Operations. Several years ago he lamented that very thing, having to use local Arabs/non-Americans to translate because one of the very hardest jobs to fill is liguistics in Arabic and Farsi - at the time the number of armed forces personnel trained or training in Farsi or Arabic was very small.
That might be a bit different a decade after 9/11, hopefully so.
“
Arabic culture was to be integrated into the curriculum in elementary and
intermediate schools,...
“
Except for the over-paid (probably unionized) school teachers...
I’m for an OPTION to get training in Arabic.
When WWII broke out, having a pool of folks fluent in Japanese, German,
Italian, as well as Navaho and Cherokee (code-talkers) was part of our arsenal.
We do know that the Dept. of Defense has had trouble getting speakers
of Arabic that are actually loyal to the USA. Training more of “our own”
in Arabic (and other Middle-Eastern languages) ain’t a bad idea.
Especially as we know that many Muslim leaders say nice things in English...
then preach some of the most vile crap in their native language.
And the reason they backed away from it is that it probably raised a sh*tstorm over the last couple days since the story popped up. Bunches of parents and patriots probably wrote, called, and emailed the superintendent with a massive “WTF?!?!?”
No American child should be forced to learn Arabic, except for the phrases “Drop your weapon”, “Halt”, and “Eat s**t and die, sand jockey”.
Multiculturalism is a failure. Stop it. We are America, the US of A.
I kind of figured the folks in Mansfield weren’t going to accept this
Working Americans are paying for it.
I FULLY AGREE WITH YOU.
MISD USED TO BE CONSIDERED TO BE ONE OF THE BEST.
Very good idea.
You are right I hope.
Hmmm
I hope we can stay that way.
Federal money right? I still think the locals will throw a hissy fit....we will wait and see
Notice how folks VISCERALLY know this is WRONG,
but only a few bat aside the PC shield of the enemy
and demand that they stop.
VERY GOOD IDEA.
